AAA: Worcester Red Sox (23-13) 13, Syracuse Mets (11-25) 7  Box Score

Syracuse had a good day on offense on Sunday, but after falling behind 10-0 by the third inning, it was not quite enough for the victory. Almora played seven innings in center field in his fifth rehab game with Syracuse. Mazeika, Orlando Calixte, and David Rodriguez all hit their first Syracuse home runs. Lee’s .479 OBP leads the Triple-A East League (minimum 50 at bats).

  • RHP Jesus Reyes (L, 0-5, 6.97 ERA) 2.0 IP, 9 H, 8 ER, 2 BB, 4 K
  • RHP Marcel Renteria (2-0, 11.70 ERA) 3.0 IP, 3 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 3 K
  • RHP Yennsy Diaz (0-0, 1.00 ERA) 1.0 IP, H, 2 BB, K

It was a nightmarish outing in what has been a very rough season for Reyes as he allowed 11 baserunners and eight runs in just two innings. While his two previous starts were among his better outings of the season, he has still allowed three or more earned runs in all but one start. Renteria has struggled to get acclimated to Triple-A after his quick promotion from Binghamton. He has allowed at least one run in six of his seven outings with Syracuse.

AA: Bowie Baysox (25-9) 10, Binghamton Rumble Ponies (11-24) 0  Box Score

There is not much to say about this one, and none of it good. The Rumble Ponies’ offense had just six baserunners in Sunday’s game, all of whom reached on singles. Carpio, who is still just 23 years old, continued his recent hot streak and is now hitting .333/.400/.528. Vientos has had a disappointing start to the season and has seen his strikeouts spike (he is striking out in over a third of his at bats) but his .207 ISO is the highest of his career.

  • RHP Luc Rennie (L, 0-3, 8.28 ERA) 5.0 IP, 9 H, 7 R, 6 ER, 2 BB, 2 K
  • RHP Yeizo Campos (0-0, 3.60 ERA) 1.0 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, BB, 2 K
  • RHP Ryley Gilliam (0-3, 9.00 ERA) 2.0 IP

Rennie struggled again in Sunday’s start and now has a 10.80 ERA for the month of June. Gilliam had a scoreless outing, but has largely struggled in Binghamton after performing well there in 2019. Most alarmingly, he has only struck out 10 batters in 13.0 innings after striking out 13.5 batters per nine innings at the same level two years ago.

A+: Hudson Valley Renegades (20-14) 5, Brooklyn Cyclones (10-23) 0  Box Score

Brooklyn’s offense was nonexistent in Sundays game. The team recorded just two hits, one each by Juan Uriarte and Zach Ashford, and only had one baserunner even get to second base. McNeil made his first rehab appearance in his return from a hamstring injury. He played five innings at second base and had two plate appearances. After his absurdly hot start to the month, Baty has cooled off and gone hitless in his last four games. He still has the seventh highest OPS in the High-A East League. Ronny Mauricio went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts and is hitting just .159/.213/.364 in June.

  • RHP Jose Butto (1-2, 4.41 ERA) 5.0 IP, 3 H, 2 BB, 7 K
  • RHP Allan Winans (L, 1-2, 2.57 ERA) 2.1 IP, 2 H, 2 ER, BB,
  • RHP Hunter Parsons (2-0, 4.50 ERA) 1.0 IP, 2 H, 2 R, ER, 2 BB,

Butto returned to form on Sunday, tossing five scoreless innings one week after having one of the worst outings of his career. His 9.64 K/9 is the highest of his career. Brooklyn’s bullpen gave up all five runs and did not strike out a single batter in their combined four innings of work.

A: Palm Beach Cardinals (11-25) 10, St. Lucie Mets (20-16) 3  Box Score

The Mets had more opportunities to score in Sunday’s game, but went just 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position and left ten runners on base. Palmer is known for his impressive raw power, but Sunday’s double was just his fifth extra base hit of the season. Ramirez, who is just 18 years old, now has seven hits in his last 23 at bats and had just his second game without a strikeout. Gaddis mostly played third base in 2019, but has spent the majority of his time at catcher this year.

Faith’s outing started with a relatively uneventful first inning before it all came crashing down in the second inning. He would walk the first five batters he faced in the second inning before a grand slam, the lone hit he allowed, knocked him out of the game. Just 14 of the 43 pitches he threw were strikes. If ERA is any indication, Faith appears to be better suited for the bullpen (3.24 ERA as a reliever) than the starting rotation (12.00 ERA as a starter).

Parra strikes out and walks a lot of batters (nearly one batter an inning for each), but he has been relatively untouched by the long ball throughout his career, giving up just one home run in 56.0 career innings. Betances made his first rehab appearance, which went fairly smoothly. He was reportedly sitting 93 MPH with his fastball and touched 94 MPH.
