The 51s exploded for 11 runs in the first two innings. McNeil continued to go ballistic at the plate, hitting a grand slam in the second for his 18th homer of the year. Alonso also homered, his fourth with Las Vegas and 19th of the year. He’s still yet to get it going as a 51, but he’s still getting on base. He was also hit twice in this game. Kivlehan had a three-run homer in that nine-run second inning as part of a three-hit game. Luis Guillorme got two hits and now has a seven-game hitting streak. Cody Asche also had a three-hit game. Plaia was terrible in April and May, but is now batting .455/.538/.727 in 13 July plate appearances after batting .333/.458/.615 in 48 June plate appearances.

With no better rested option, the 51s resorted to using reliever Kevin McGowan as last night’s starter, and he fared just fine. Despite only striking out one, he limited the Grizzlies to just a run on two hits and came out after throwing 65 pitches, much more than he usually throws in an outing. Torres returned to Las Vegas and continued to struggle, just as he did in his first three-game stint. This is despite a 1.20 ERA in 23 games for Binghamton this season. Krol got off to a shaky start as a 51 but has now thrown six straight scoreless appearances. Five of Baumann’s last six appearances have been scoreless as well, and he has held batters to a .203 average between El Paso and Las Vegas.

The only Rumble Ponies pitcher that had a good night was Daniel Zamora, wh0 contributed two scoreless innings of relief after Cavallaro and Nogosek gave up nine runs between them. Cavallaro was making his Rumble Ponies debut after pitching to a 2.09 ERA with the Columbia Fireflies.

Surprisingly enough, Binghamton was in the game up until Erie scored three in the top of the ninth against Joe Zanghi to take a 12-9 lead, and sealing the deal.

Binghamton scored two in the bottom of the first on consecutive doubles from Mora and Allen, and an RBI on a sac fly courtesy of Mazeika. After another run in the third, the Rumble Ponies put up a four-spot in the fourth on a string of base hits and a Levi Michael home run, and two more in the sixth.

Andres Gimenez had three singles and two stolen bases, Michael Paez had a base hit, two walks, and an RBI, and T.J. Rivera went 0-for-4 in his first rehab game back from ulnar collateral ligament reconstruction surgery. Gimenez leads the Florida State League with 26 stolen bases.

The Cyclones got terrific outings from their hurlers on Thursday, but unfortunately, their offense couldn’t get the job done. Jaison Vilera went seven very strong innings, striking out eight and only allowed two runs. Vilera now has 25 strikeouts in 19.1 innings this year and has allowed only 11 hits in that span.

Nate Peden worked around three hits and four walks to escape with just one earned run and picked up his first win of the season. Villanueva, Hickey, and Ivan Jean put up 3.2 innings of clean relief to lead the Mets to their ninth win of the season.

Kingsport scored two in the second after Anthony Dirocie was hit by a pitch and Domingo Martinez and Phil Capra singled. They tacked on another in the third when Newton led off with a double and scored on a double play.

They scored four more runs, two in the fifth and another two in the ninth, to secure their ninth victory of the season and send Elizabethton to their seventh loss.

Felix Sosa had himself a terrific outing, going five strong innings only allowing two base hits. Josh Cornielly and Jeffrey Colon gave up three runs in four innings combined but worked around seven hits and three walks in doing so.

The runs came early and often for the Mets. They scored two in the first on consecutive extra-base hits from Regnault (double) and Diaz (triple, another in the second, and two more in the third after Hernandez’ leadoff double, a Diaz HBP, and an Andres Parra two-out single.

They added one more in the fifth and put up four runs in the sixth to blow the Angels out of the water.

After giving up a five-spot in the first inning to the D-Backs, the Mets chipped their way back with a run in the sixth on a Eulises Sanchez bases-loaded groundout and two more in the seventh when Ezequiel Pena singled with one out and the bases loaded. Unfortunately, the Mets came up just short.
