MMN Recap: McNeil Extends Hitting Streak to 16 Games

Fresno (50-35) 5, Las Vegas 51s (40-46) 0 Box Score

McNeil extended his hitting streak to 16 games and has 1.083 OPS in 18 games for the 51s. On the flip side Alonso has struggled, slashing only .194/.351/.387 in 17 games for Vegas. Luis Guillorme was on base twice and has a .901 OPS in seven games since returning to Triple-A.

It was the sixth straight start for Gagnon of not allowing more than three runs.

Binghamton (41-42) 7, Erie (39-44) 5 Box Score

The Binghamton offense jumped out to an early 1-0 lead on a John Mora double in the first inning. After falling behind 3-1, the Rumble Ponies posted five runs in the fourth inning. Altogether, Binghamton batters collected 11 hits to plate seven runs. Eight of the nine starting position players garnered at least one hit.

Knuckleballer Mickey Jannis took the hill for the Binghamton Rumble Ponies, and he tossed a scoreless first inning before running into trouble in the second. He allowed one run to score on a groundout in the second inning, and he surrendered a run-scoring triple and a wild pitch in the third inning to dig Binghamton into a 3-1 hole. Jannis pitched a scoreless fourth inning but gave up another two runs in the fifth before getting pulled.

The Binghamton bullpen supported Jannis by pitching four scoreless innings. Reliever David Roseboom, who has dominated to a 2.30 ERA in the Eastern League after getting roughed up at Las Vegas, allowed only one hit in his appearance. Corey Taylor pitched a scoreless ninth inning to lock down the save.

St. Lucie (33-46) 3, Bradenton (39-39) 2 Box Score

The Mets offense collected nine hits, but struggled to plate runners throughout the evening. In the fourth inning, St. Lucie broke through on a Michael Paez double. Dash Winningham then hit a run-scoring single to give the Mets a 2-0 lead. In the seventh inning, with the score tied at two, Gene Cone struck a groun-rule double that gave the Mets a 3-2 lead that they would not relinquish.

In his debut with the St. Lucie Mets, starting pitcher Anthony Kay turned in an absolute gem on the hill. Kay, who had pitcher to a 4.54 ERA in 13 starts with Columbia, was promoted to St. Lucie and made his first sart with the tea. Kay scattered seven hits and allowed two runs in the fifth inning. Reliever Austin McGeorge came on for Kay and completed a five-out save to geive Kay his first win in St. Lucie.

Greenville (31-52) 4, Columbia (41-39) 2 Box Score

The Fireflies’ offense jumped out to an early lead, scoring in the bottom of the first inning on an Edgardo Fermin solo home run. Colubia drove in another run on a Blake Tiberi single in the third inning, and hen the bats went silent. Columbia collected only five hits and two runs on the night, failing to keep up with Greenville.

Nicolas Debora took the hill for the Colubia Fireflies. Debora, who has made appearances for Columbia, St. Lucie, and Brooklyn this year, tossed five innings while allowing three runs. He surrendered the first run on a ground out in the third inning, and he allowed the following two runs to score on a series of hits in the fifth inning.

Aberdeen (9-10) 7, Brooklyn (11-8) 1 Box Score

  • David Miranda RF: 2-for-3, RBI, .212/.325/.273

Cortes got his first pro hit after going 0-for-4 in his debut on Tuesday. Cyclones only had five hits on the day with Nick Meyer and Brian Sharp each singling for the other two.

It’s been a rough start to the career for Megill with four earned runs in 1.2 innings thus far for the Mets 2018 8th rounder.

Elizabethton (8-6) 4, Kingsport (8-6) 3 Box Score

The Kingsport offense got off to an early start, taking the lead in the first inning on a Shervyen Newton double. Anthony Dirocie followed by driving in Newton on a run-scoring single to give the Mets an early 2-0 lead.

Elizabethton would tie the game and eventually take the lead in the sixth inning. In the top of the seventh inning, left fielder Guillermo Granadillo tied the game at three on a run-scoring single. The Mets collected 10 hits, but only managed to scratch three runs across the plate. Newton, Granadillo and Gavin Garay each had two hits.

After being staked out to a 2-0 lead, starting pitcher Jose Butto promptly gave a run right back in the bottom of the first inning. He went on to pitch well, surrendering only four hits in five innings of work, but he allowed the game-tying home run in the fourth inning.

Dedniel Nunez came on in relief of Butto and pitched three effective innings. He allowed only one run in three innings despite allowing six hits. With the score tied at three, reliever Marbin Montijo entered the game. He induced a ground out to start the inning, but then allowed a double, an intentional walk, and a run-scoring single to give Elizabethton the walk-off victory.

GCL Mets (9-5) 14, GCL Marlins (5-9) 9 Box Score

  • Ronny Mauricio (.361/.338/.541), SS: 3-for-6, 3B, 3 R, 4 RBI
  • Jarred Kelenic (.469/.514/.656), DH: 2-for-4, 2B, R, RBI, BB, K

The GCL Mets’ offense was held scoreless for the first three frames of the day, but they jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the fourth inning thanks to a Walter Rasquin two-run double. The offense exploded in the fifth inning, plating eight runs in the frame. The Mets put up 14 runs while collecting 15 hits, six of which went for extra bases. Star prospects Ronny Mauricio and Jarred Kelenic had fantastic nights at the plate while batting second and third in the lineup, respectively.

  • RHP Oscar Rojas (2-1, 3.24 ERA): 5.2 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 5 K
  • RHPMarcos Correa (0-0, 7.56 ERA): 2.1 IP, 3 H, 6 ER, 3 BB, 2 K

Oscar Rojas took the hill for the Mets and turned in a respectable outing, holding the Marlins to only three runs over 5 ⅔ innings. He tossed five scoreless innings before being touched up for three runs in the sixth. He was relieved by Miguel Ramirez, who finished the sixth inning.

Reliever Marcos Correa came on in the seventh inning and surrendered six earned runs in only 2 ⅓ innings of work. He now owns a 7.56 ERA on the season.

DSL Yankees (14-14) 6, DSL Mets1 (16-12) 2 Box Score

The Mets offense struggled to find any consistency at the plate. The team collected only six hits, and no player had multiple hits. Both runs for the Mets came courtesy of an Andres Regnault two-run home run, his fifth of the season.

  • RHP Victor Isturiz (0-1, 2.79 ERA): H, 2 BB, 4 K

Victor Isturiz took the hill for the Mets and pitched a scoreless first inning before finding some trouble in the second. Isturiz allowed an RBI single in the second inning and proceeded to surrender five for runs in the third inning. The bullpen did an excellent job backing up Isturiz, tossing 6 ⅔ scoreless innings.

DSL Rangers2 (17-9) 3, DSL Mets2 (14-14) 1 Box Score

  • Felix Valerio (.283/.383/.402), 2B: 0-for-3, 2 BB

The Mets offense failed to pose any type of threat in this contest. They were shut out for the first four innings of the game before scratching across their first and only run. The team collected only three hits altogether, and no player had any more than one hit.

  • RHP Robert Colina (1-2, 6.61 ERA): 5 IP, 2 H, ER, 5 K
  • LHP Daniel Guzman (0-1, 3.46 ERA): 3 H, ER, BB, K

Mets starting pitcher Robert Colina turned in a solid outing, allowing only one earned run over five innings of work. He demonstrated great control, walking none while striking out five. Each Mets pitcher to make an appearance allowed a run to score. Mets pitchers allowed seven hits, four of which went for extra bases.
