Fresno (69-51) 4, Las Vegas (60-60) 0  Box Score

Borenstein had a strong game getting on base twice and recording an extra-base hit, but is off to a more moderate start in August after just mashing in June and July. Alonso cooled off a bit but still drew a walk, and is still in the middle of a blisteringly hot stretch. Smith has been scuffling a bit, with only a .289 OBP in August now. He hasn’t been awful, but he hasn’t been nearly good enough to convince the Mets that he’s deserving of the everyday first base job or even that he should be ahead of Alonso on the depth chart.

  • LHP P.J. Conlon (L, 3-8, 7.02 ERA): 4.2 IP, 5 H, 3 R, BB, 3 K
  • RHP Eric Hanhold (0-1, 9.64 ERA): 0.1 IP, H, R, BB, 0 K
  • RHP Corey Taylor (1-1, 6.14 ERA): 2.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, BB, 0 K
  • RHP Chris Beck (1-0, 7.71 ERA): 1.0 IP, H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K

Conlon returned to the rotation after two scoreless relief appearances and pitched three strong innings before losing it in the fourth and fifth. He has really struggled as a starter this year. Hanhold came back from the DL and made his first appearance for Las Vegas since June 17. After allowing a single, walking a batter, and throwing a wild pitch, he left the game with an apparent injury. No word yet on the severity of this potential setback. He put up really good numbers for Binghamton this year, but has given up ten runs in 9.1 innings with Las Vegas. The recently promoted Taylor had a strong outing.

Florida (46-67) 3, St. Lucie (47-69) 1   Box Score

Wright played in his second rehab game since coming back and struck out in his first at-bat, but drew a walk in his second plate appearance before coming out as scheduled after five innings. He also fielded his first grounder successfully. Sanchez’s bat has come on a bit to a solid level to go along with his great defense behind the plate. Carpio had been in a rut before his homer as the Mets only managed five hits and one run.

Columbia (54-62) 8, Delmarva (59-57) 7   Box Score

Miranda struggled in Brooklyn, especially hitting for power, but has torn it up in his small 24-plate-appearance sample so far with Columbia. He still hasn’t hit for much power but had a career game yesterday. Winaker’s been mashing recently, with an 1.153 OPS in August. Moreno has also been swinging the bat much better after a slow start to the season. The Fireflies successfully clawed their way back after giving up five in the second inning.

  • RHP Tony Dibrell (5-5, 3.41 ERA): 5.0 IP, 7 H, 5 R, 3 BB, 5 K
  • RHP Trent Johnson (0-0, 7.71 ERA): 0.0 IP, H, R, 2 BB
  • LHP Taylor Henry (0-2, 4.83 ERA): 2.0 IP, H, R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 2 K
  • RHP Darwin Ramos (W, 4-3, 4.57 ERA): 2.0 IP, H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K

Dibrell had been really settling into a groove before this mediocre effort. He didn’t quite have the improved command that has made him successful this season. He hit battered around in the second but pitched around traffic in the other four innings, throwing 99 pitches (59 for strikes) in five innings. Ramos, the winning pitcher, has a 3.27 ERA and just three walks over his last ten appearances (22.0 innings).

Bluefield (32-21) 9, Kingsport (27-25) 7   Box Score

Kelenic has really started to heat up with multiple hits in his last four games as well as five out of his last six. Newton is also hot, with a .944 OPS in August after yesterday’s homer. Santana now has a six-game hitting streak. Mark Vientos, who has been scorching hot lately, went 0-2 but with two walks as he owns an OBP north of .500 for the month of August so far.

  • RHP Garrison Bryant (L, 1-2, 4.54 ERA): 4.0 IP, 5 H, 5 R, 3 ER, BB, 4 K
  • RHP Allan Winans (0-0, 2.70 ERA): 3.0 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 0 BB, 2 K
  • RHP Luis Silva (0-0, 4.94 ERA): 2.0 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 3 BB, K

Bryant, coming off his best start of the season, scuffled a bit as his pitch count was at 83 through four innings, although he was hurt by a Vientos throwing error. Winans is off to a strong start to his pro career but got hit a little in this game. Still, he managed to throw strikes and not lose control the entire three innings he pitched. Silva has given up two runs in back-to-back appearances.

GCL Mets 9 (21-26), GCL Marlins 3   Box Score

Mauricio is 4 for his last 37 with a BB/K of 4/4. Reyes keeps on hitting, no matter what St. Lucie based-team.

Hutchinson and Taylor, two 2017 draftees, have been pleasant surprises in Gulf Coast.

DSL Nationals 6, DSL Mets1 2 (39-22)  Box Score

Hernandez is 15 for his last 39 with 3 homers, 4 walks, and 7 strikeouts.

  • RHP Joander Suarez 3.1 IP, 5 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, K 4.58 ERA

There is a Joander Suarez, and Jhoander Saez in the system.
