MMN Recap: Ronny Mauricio and Mark Vientos Homer

AAA: Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (25-11) 10, Syracuse Mets (11-27) 7

Box Score

Syracuse had three major leaguers rehabbing for them on Wednesday and they all produced. Conforto, Almora, and McNeil combined to go 4-for-11 with a walk and two doubles.

Third baseman Orlando Calixte also homered in the game for Syracuse.

Patrick Mazeika hit his fourth Triple-A double on a flyball to left field and was also called for catcher’s interference that led to a Scranton run. Travis Blankenhorn had a big night, hitting a two-run homer on a flyball to right, drawing a walk, and stealing a base. Khalil Lee drew another walk, his BB% now sits at 20.5% over his first 78 PA with Syracuse.

Szapucki had his second consecutive rough start. After walking five in four innings, his BB% is now up to 12.1% and his WHIP is 1.69.

Diaz had his worst outing of the season. He entered the game in the bottom of the ninth with Syracuse up by one and blew the save. He then came back out for the bottom of the tenth inning and gave up a walk-off three run homer.

Right-hander Trey Cobb did throw three scoreless innings of relief.

Carlos Cortes recorded yet another extra base hit, his 15th double of the season on a line drive to left field.

Vientos hit his sixth home run and eighth double of the season, he’s looked much better at the plate over the last couple of weeks.

Carpio had a three-hit night, including his ninth double. Carpio got off to a slow start but the soon to be 24-year-old has raised his offensive numbers to approximately average. His wRC+ is currently only 3% below average over 113 PA.

Goggin saved the Rumble Ponies bullpen with a long outing, but Yeizo Campos gave up a run in the top of the ninth and tenth innings.

A+: Wilmington Blue Rocks (19-17) 5, Brooklyn Cyclones (11-24) 2

Box Score

Ronny Mauricio hit his seventh home run of the season on a flyball to right-center field. According to Brooklyn’s twitter account, the home run was hit 108 MPH and 426 feet. He also singled on a groundball to left. His home run came as a left-handed hitter and his single came as a righty.

Brett Baty had another multi-hit game, his first single was liner to right and his second was a liner to center.

Francisco Alvarez got a night off from catching and went hitless in four plate appearances. He did draw a walk though. He has walked 9.5% of the time since being promoted to Brooklyn.

Brooklyn had a 2-0 lead headed to the bottom of the sixth inning before Vilera and Eric Orze combined to allow five runs in the inning.

Box Score

Ramirez had a multi-hit game, his first hit was a sharp groundball single to centerfield and his second was a groundball double to left. The 18-year-old has a .871 OPS over his last seven games.

Peroza got on base three times and his .435 OBP ranks 15th in the league. Nic Gaddis and Ranfy Adon both hit their first homers of the year. Adon’s was a flyball to left-center and Gaddis’ was a flyball to left.

Luis Moreno struggled with his control, walking five and only striking out three over 4.2 IP.

Dellin Betances continued his rehab assignment and the results were terrible. He faced six batters and here are his results in chronological order: walk, single, RBI single, lineout, walk, two-run single. Jeffrey Colon then relieved Betances and allowed both of his inherited runners to score.

Reports say that Betances’ fastball was mostly 92-93 mph.
