MMN Recap: Ronny Mauricio Homers Twice for Brooklyn

AAA: Syracuse Mets (24-48) 10, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (45-24) 8 Box Score

Syracuse jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the second. Orlando Calixte drew a bases loaded walk to get Syracuse on the board, and Williams drew another bases loaded walk to force in a run. Payton’s bases loaded single drove in two runs, then a wild pitch allowed the fifth Syracuse run to cross the plate. A Patrick Mazeika sacrifice fly plated another run to cap off the six-run inning. After falling behind in the top of the sixth, catcher Chance Sisco drove in two runs, including the go-ahead run, with a double in the bottom of the inning. 

Worley got the start and pitched two scoreless innings before encountering trouble. In the third, after being spotted a 6-0 lead, Worley gave up a run-scoring single and a run-scoring sacrifice fly. In the fourth, he gave up another run-scoring single and a three-run home run to tie the game 6-6. Schugel entered in relief and pitched a scoreless fifth before allowing two Scranton/Wilkes-Barre runs in the sixth. Geoff Hartlieb, Franklyn Kilome and Tom Windle all chipped in scoreless innings out of the pen to preserve the Syracuse win. 

AA: Hartford Yard Goats (23-49) 6, Binghamton Rumble Ponies (27-43) 5 Box Score

Jake Mangum and Brett Baty walked to start the game, then Vientos slugged a three-run home run to give Binghamton a 3-0 lead. The home run was Vientos’ 18th of the season. Mangum drove in a run with a single in the second, and Baty earned an RBI with a sacrifice fly. Binghamton was held scoreless for the final seven innings of the game.

Butto gave up a solo home run to the leadoff batter in the second inning. Later that same inning, Hartford successfully stole home twice. In the third, Butto gave up another solo home run. Winans, who took the loss, allowed two home runs in two innings. 

A+: Brooklyn Cyclones (29-42) 14, Jersey Shore BlueClaws (32-41) 5 Box Score

Mauricio slugged two solo home runs on the night – one in the fifth inning and another in the sixth inning. Edgardo Fermin also homered twice, and Brooklyn hit six home runs on the way to plating 14 in the win. Alvarez, the Mets top prospect, had two hits and two RBI.

Vilera allowed only one run through the first four innings, then allowed four runs in the fifth. The Brooklyn bullpen combined to toss 4 ⅓ scoreless innings.

A-: Daytona Tortugas (35-38) 7, St. Lucie Mets (39-34) 2 Box Score

Peroza opened the scoring with a solo home run in the first. The 21-year-old infielder now owns an .850 OPS in 2021. The St. Lucie offense struggled for most of the night, mustering only one more run in the ninth inning.

Moreno issued a bases-loaded walk with two outs in the first to give Daytona its first run of the game. In the fifth, Moreno gave up a two-run single to give Daytona a 3-1 lead. Nightengale entered in relief and was tagged for four runs, but only one run was earned due to a pair of errors. 

Rookie: FCL Astros (11-9) 3, FCL Mets (10-9) 2 Box Score

The FCL Mets only scored two runs on Tuesday. Dominguez scored the first on a solo home run in the fifth inning. The Mets scored one in the ninth, but the comeback bid fell short in the 3-2 loss.

Suarez allowed five batters to reach base in two innings, but only one run scored against the starter. In the fourth inning, reliever Brendan Hardy gave up a two-run single to give the Astros a 3-0 lead. 

Rookie Foreign: DSL Mets1 (8-4) 8, DSL Phillies Red (3-7) 1 Box Score

The DSL Mets1 offense scored eight runs on only four hits Tuesday. The lineup drew six walks and three hit by pitches.

The DSL Mets1 pitching staff held the DSL Phillies Red lineup to only one run on Tuesday. Peguero, the starter, gave up the lone Phillies run on a sacrifice fly in the first inning. 

Rookie Foreign: DSL Phillies White (6-4) 8, DSL Mets2 (4-8) 7 F/8 Box Score

De Los Santos powered the DSL Mets2 offense on Tuesday, slugging a leadoff triple in the second and a solo home run in the fourth. De Los Santos led off the seventh with a single, sparking a five-run inning to tie the game and force extras.

Reliever Kelvin Contreras entered in the eighth with a runner on second to start the extra frame. Contreras gave up a leadoff single, then intentionally walked a batter to load the bases. A bases-loaded walk forced in the game-winning run for DSL Phillies White.
