El Paso Chihuahuas (25-28) 6, Las Vegas 51s (21-32) 3 Box Score
- Brandon Nimmo CF: 1 for 4, BB, 2K
- Amed Rosario SS: 2 for 4, RBI, K
- Gavin Cecchini 2B: 1 for 3, Run, HR, 2 RBI, BB
The 51s did not have their best offensive day outside of a 3-run seventh inning. Amed Rosario extended his hitting to 17 games and did not drop a pop-up. After a slow start, Nimmo has hit .357 his last 10 games. His OBP is up to .357 on the year despite hitting .220.
- LHP Sean Gilmartin (1-2, 6.67 ERA): 6 IP, 8 H, 5 ER, 2 BB, 3 K
- RHP Beck Wheeler (2-3, 8.18 ERA): 1 IP
- RHP Ben Rowen (1-2, 5.81 ERA): 2 IP, 3 H, ER, 2 K
Sean Gilmartin struggled again for the 51s. He now has a 1.70 WHIP on the season and has given up 20 earned runs in 27 innings. Rowen mopped up the game and has pitched much better since a poor start to the year.
Trenton Thunder (33-17) 4, Binghamton Rumble Ponies (28-18) 3 Box Score
- Luis Guillorme SS: 3 for 4, Run
- Kevin Kaczmarski RF: 3 for 4, Run, 2B, K
- Cody Decker DH: 1 for 3, Run, 2B, RBI, K
Kaczmarski and Guillorme combined for six of the nine Binghamton hits. The Rumble Ponies had a 3-0 lead in this game before blowing it in the eighth inning.
- RHP Donovan Hand (3-1, 3.01 ERA): 7.2 IP, 5 H, ER, BB, 7 K
- RHP Tim Peterson (1-2, 2.08 ERA): 0.2 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 2 ER, BB
Hand was great and threw seven scoreless innings before running into trouble in the eighth. In the eighth, he recorded two outs to start the inning before allowing a single. Luis Rojas pulled him and Tim Peterson did not help the cause. He allowed the inherited runner to score, lost the lead, and he also lost the game the subsequent inning. Not the best of outings for the 2012 draftee but he has had a good year overall.
St. Lucie Mets (26-26) 3, Daytona Tortugas (27-24) 2 Box Score
- J.C. Rodriguez SS: 1 for 4, Run, 2B, K
- Jhoan Urena 3B: 2 for 4, 2B, 2 RBI,
- Arnaldo Berrios RF: 1 for 2, Run, BB
The St. Lucie Mets only got three runs in this game but with their pitching, that was all that was needed. They scored two runs in the sixth and Jhoan Urena provided a go-ahead single in the eighth inning. He is now slashing .321/.409/.465 on the season.
- RHP Chris Flexen (0-0, 2.13 ERA): 5.1 IP, 5 H, 2 R, ER, 8 K
- RHP Austin McGeorge (0-0, 1.32 ERA): 0.2 IP
- RHP Justin Dunn (3-3, 5.36 ERA): 3 IP, H
The pitching was dominant in this one. Flexen has now pitched in three games and was able to throw 80 pitches in this one. He has 13 strikeouts in 12.2 innings and could be on his way to Binghamton sooner rather than later. McGeorge has a 0.95 WHIP while striking out 18 in 13.2 innings. He has not allowed a run his last six appearances. Dunn has now given up only one run in his last 11 innings since he started piggybacking with Flexen. Perhaps most importantly, he did not walk a batter in this one. Signs are pointing up for the 2016 first rounder.
Columbia Fireflies (26-23) 8, Augusta GreenJackets (14-33) 2 Box Score
- Andres Gimenez SS: 2 for 4, Run, 3B, 2 RBI, BB, 2 K
- Michael Paez 2B: 1 for 3, Run, BB, 2 K
- Desmond Lindsay CF: 1 for 3, BB, K
The Fireflies had eight runs on ten hits. They scored six runs in the first two innings and knocked opposing starter, Stephen Woods, after 1.1 innings. They also tacked on two in the third and that was it for the game. Fortunately that was five more than they needed to win this game. Paez was hitting .285/.378/.503 going into the game with a 148 wRC+. His .887 OPS is good for eighth in the league.
- RHP Jordan Humphreys (8-1, 1.40 ERA): 6 IP, 2 H, R, 0 ER, 8 K
- RHP Darwin Ramos (0-0, 4.66 ERA): 2 IP, 2 H, BB, 2 K
- LHP Taylor Henry (1-0, 4.29 ERA): 1 IP, 2 H, ER
Jordan Humphreys continued his Dwight Gooden like domination of the Southern Atlantic League. His ERA, WHIP, and innings pitched are all first in the league. He only allowed two baserunners in this game.
Jordan Humphreys add to watch list, very nice for a 20 year old!
Flexen, Molina, Humphreys, and Oswalt may need promotions. Once, Rosario up with big club then Guillorme to AAA with great glove.
Has anybody seen Gimenez SS Columbia?
Love the shade thrown to Cabrera for that awful dropped pop up. Not wrong for that either, Rosario should be up based on glove at this point. Reyes saved himself by hitting more lately but Rosario instantly makes an impact on defense.
Agree. Flexen and Molina would look nice in the rotation with Conlon. Oswalt has earned the right to have his ERA jump 3 runs once he gets to AAA’s dry air and you never know might have something good there.
Humpreys and M. Gonzalez have more than earned a promotion to High A.
Yes, has looked good at the plate and in the field. Great showing for a kid so young for the league.
