Hey Michael,
Any rumblings on what the Mets plan with Gimenez? Will they leave him in Columbia as long as he continues to produce? Or do they still plan to send him to Kingsport or Brooklyn once those seasons start?
I haven’t seen a real scouting report on Humphreys, but he sure looks as though he’ll make it at least as far as A+, huh? Nice little early career highlight to be leading all of pro baseball in wins heading into mid-May. Wins may be a “meaningless” stat but a 6-0 starter with an ERA under 2 certainly means that he’s pitching pretty well deep into games. That Rosario HR was crushed. I think the kid might have a future. Jhoan Urena, who’s still only 22, I believe, may be coming into his own with the bat? I especially like the OBP skills he’s showing, with just about as many BB’s as K’s this far this season. Sounds like he’ll have a tough time sticking at 3B, so hopefully the power continues to progress. Giminez keeps plugging along, showing he definitely belongs playing with kids mostly a couple years older than he is. Still a chance they might send him to Brooklyn, if they really want to just give him a taste of NYC, but I think he’s got his eyes set on heading south instead of north for his next assignment. That’s OK, there are plenty of retired NY’ers down in FLA who will happily tell him all about the old neighborhood. Conlon’s ceiling might be low-ish, but still nice to see him putting it together after a rough start to the year. No Dimino yesterday. Hope it’s just a rest. I’m starting to like looking for him in the box scores. He seems to be able to put bat to ball and run a little. Couple of skills this org can sorely use.
If he continues to hit at Colombia. I wouldn’t mind seeing them get aggressive with him and promote him to St Lucie at all-star break. He looks like he might be a stud. Even though he is real young he might be that elite guy that can handle it.
Yeah I mean I probably haven’t read about his velocity or anything like that but so far so good, he’s likely earned himself a promotion to high A at some point with Gonzalez. Urena became a little underrated due to Thompson’s RBI numbers last year, Urena has the higher ceiling but the issue is putting it all together and his defense at 3B. Rosario I think is another serious middle infield injury or two away from being called up (I think Cecchini gets 1st crack say if Walker/Cabrera/Reyes goes on DL). I have a feeling he would be such a sparkplug for Mets, speaking of Rosario. Gimenez I think spends the year at Low A unless he continues to hit .350 all season. Conlon I think has a low ceiling, high floor if that makes any sense. He could be #4 starter max and possibly ace LH out of BP ala Blevins. I want him to succeed bc he’s such a good story and would be a nice change from the flame throwers.
That would really be aggressive with Gimenez considering this is his first time playing stateside, and they already skipped 3 levels with him (albeit, think they were planning on his skipping at least one level and maybe even two all along). Not arguing against it a mid-year promotion, just saying that would be very aggressive and could only see that happen if he truly dominates at Columbia. If that were the case, it would be truly remarkable.
I was told he will likely stay with Columbia for the season, obviously that can change but the Tiberi injury opens up 3B for guys like Ramos and Paez.
The coaching staff has raved about Gimenez and if Woodmansee is out long-term I would say there is a very outside chance of him seeing St. Lucie this season.
Humphreys has fastball in low 90s with good sink on it. Good command of his breaking ball too. Two strong pitches is really all you need to dominate that level. Changeup still needs work. Dimino hit the DL today. Still don’t see much of a ceiling for Dimino, but his versatility this season has helped.
Thanks buddy. Hope he makes it impossible for them to even consider moving him back down!
Love to hear that they are raving about him. Thanks for the info
Good game today for Nimmo, Rosario, and Smith
