On the night, the Rumble Ponies could not quite catch the Fisher Cats.  A Michael fourth inning two-run homer pulled the Rumble Ponies to within a run.  After falling to three runs down entering the bottom of the sixth, Tebow would deliver a two out RBI, but he would be stranded.  From there, Church was unable to continue holding the fort.

On the night, Alonso extended his hitting streak to three games, Mazeika extended his hitting streak to six games, and Tebow now has hit in two straight games.  With respect to Tebow, he has a hit in 11 of the 14 games he has played this season.

Church followed his best start of the season with him fighting through six innings and then falling apart in the seventh.  He’s now allowed four plus earned in two of his four starts.

This was Roseboom’s third appearance since being sent down to Double-A, and he has allowed a run in two of those three appearances.  He has also gone multiple innings in two of his three appearances.

St. Lucie (8-9) 5 – Charlotte (9-9) 3 (Game 1) Box Score

St. Lucie won this game on the strength of a fifth inning rally.  After a Gimenez single and stolen base, Lindsay walked setting the stage for the Winningham go-ahead three run homer.

Gimenez has yet to be thrown out in his five stolen base attempts.  Strom is breaking out of his cold snap with him getting multiple hits and scoring runs in two of his last three games.

Dunn responded to his worst start this season by having his longest start of the season.  In his four starts this season, he has yet to allow more than two earned runs, and he has struck out at least five batters.  On the downside, he’s now allowed eight hits in two straight starts, and he has walked two plus in three straight starts.

Ryan now has pitched 22 scoreless innings dating back to last year.  Even though he did not strike out anyone tonight, he has struck out 25 batters over this stretch.

St. Lucie (9-9) 6 – Charlotte (9-10) 5 (Game 2, 8 innings) Box Score

St. Lucie came back two times to win this extra inning game.  The first big rally was a three run sixth inning highlighted by a two RBI Burdick triple.  Down a run in the eighth, with the help of the new extra inning rule putting a runner on second base to start the inning, St. Lucie would quickly load the bases.  The tying run was scored on a Rizzie sacrifice fly, and Carpio scored the winning run on a wild pitch.

Gimenez was hit by a pitch on the hand in the third inning.  He would stay in the game, and we will see how this affects his playing time going forward.

In the doubleheader, St. Lucie’s bullpen did not permit an earned run, and they have not allowed one since Friday.  Blackham has been a big part of that with him not allowing a run since his first appearance on the year.  Since then, Blackham 8.1 innings while striking out nine batters.

Charleston (8-10) 7 – Columbia (11-7) 5 (Game 1, 8 innings) Box Score

From an offensive standpoint, Columbia largely lost this game due to Rigoberto Terrazas hitting into two hard luck double plays.  In the fifth, with three runs already across the plate, Brodey was picked off second after Terrazas lined out to the shortstop.  In the eighth, Terrazas hit what could have been the go-ahead sacrifice fly.  Instead, Winaker was thrown out at the plate.

With Vasquez’s three hits, he has now reached base in all 17 games he has played in this season.  Brodey snapped an 0-14 streak heading into this game in a big way with three hits.

Peterson was not able to backup an impressive start to the season with Charleston scoring in four of the first five innings of the game.  When he finally got the lead in the top of the fifth, he failed to have that shut down inning to help his team win the game.

Villines has not allowed an run over his last five appearances.  Over this streak, he has pitched 7.2 innings, and he has struck out 15 while walking none.

Charleston (9-10) 2 – Columbia (11-8) 1 (Game 2) Box Score

Whereas the Columbia offense performed well in the first half of the double header, they scuffled in the second half only getting three hits.  Their lone of the game was seemingly an accident with Tiberi leading off the sixth with a walk, and he would move around the bases on a passed ball and a pair of ground outs.

As noted above, Vasquez has now reached safely in all 18 games he’s played this year.
