The New York Mets’ minor league affiliates split their games last night, with Las Vegas and Binghamton losing, and Columbia and St. Lucie going home victorious.

It was an offensive outburst for the 51s last night. Kelly led the way, finishing a single away from a cycle. In the 16-hit attack, they had at least one run in each of the first seven innings. Third base prospect Thompson had struggled early in his first year of Triple-A, but it was nice to see him break out with three hits, and if you just looked at the batting line, you’d never know he struggled. Smith continued to hit for power on his rehab assignment and now owns a lofty .739 slugging percentage.

It was an ugly first start for Griffin in a 51s uniform. He just didn’t have it, and even with all the run support, he couldn’t keep them in the game and was taken out in the third inning having thrown 64 pitches. Roseboom relieved him and struggled again, and is off to a rough start as he tries to bounce back from an injury-riddled 2017. Secrest was fine, but was hurt by some poor fielding at third base by Thompson and gave up the final three of the 17 total runs.

Peterson pitched another good inning, and he is one of the few relievers on this staff who is off to a good start. Not wanting to waste any more pitchers, den Dekker got a chance to pitch, and he threw a scoreless inning. Maybe they should have started him?

The Rumble Ponies only managed three singles against Akron’s starter, Aaron Civale. Andrew Ely (.095), Jhoan Urena (.143) and Tim Tebow (.167) had base hits but Binghamton was stifled by Akron’s bullpen, who threw three perfect innings, striking out four batters.

Daniel Zamora (14.73 ERA) was pulled after two tough innings, he was a spot starter after they lost their starter, Drew Gagnon, to promotion ripple effect. He allowed four earned runs on four hits, walking one and striking out four in what was a bullpen game for the Ponies. Drew Smith (2.08), Tyler Bashlor (0.00), and Adonis Uceta(0.00) allowed no hits over the next seven innings, walking two batters and striking out eight.

St. Lucie (3-4) 4, Tampa (3-4) 3 – Box Score

After a walk-off victory over the Tarpons on Tuesday, the St. Lucie Mets did it again on Wednesday night. Ian Strom led off the bottom of the ninth with a single, stole second base, advanced to third on a bad throw, and then scored on a wild pitch to win the game.

Justin Dunn (0.00 ERA) went five very strong innings for the Mets, allowing just two hits, walking three and striking out seven. Matt Pobereyko (2.08) went two perfect innings in relief, striking out two.

Adam Atkins (8.31) got lit-up for three earned runs on three hits in a third of an inning, and Joseph Zanghi(0.00) got the win after taking over with one out in the eighth and finishing up perfect.

Columbia Fireflies (4-3) 8, Hagerstown Suns (2-5) 3 – Box Score

Columbia put up a six-spot after being down 3-2 to the Suns in the bottom of the eighth inning. A string of singles and base hits led to two runs coming across before Walter Rasquin hit a three-run triple to put the game out of reach.

Tony Dibrell (2.70 ERA) went six innings for the Fireflies, allowing three earned runs on five hits, striking out seven and walking three.

The bullpen was untouched, with Nicolas Debora (0.00), Joshua Payne (1.80), and Trey Cobb (0.00) combining for three innings of relief giving up just two hits, striking out four, and walking two.
