Salt Lake (18-11) 9, Las Vegas (11-18) 5  Box Score

The 51s scored five runs on nine hits in the loss. Four of the runs scored on consecutive RBI doubles by Bryce Brentz, Smith, and Kelly in the third inning. Smith’s third inning double was his first extra base hit since April 15. Cody Asche played third base and went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts in his organizational debut. Guillorme had his fourth straight two-hit game.

  • RHP Vance Worley (0-1, 11.57 ERA) 4.0 IP, 6 H, 4 ER, 2 BB
  • RHP Tim Peterson (L, 0-1, 3.31 ERA) 2.0 IP, 3 H, 4 ER, HB, 2 K
  • LHP Buddy Baumann (0-0, 0.00 ERA) 2.0 IP, H, R, 2 BB, 2 K

Worley made his second start of the season and was hit hard yet again. Through two starts, Worley has given up more runs than innings pitched and has walked six while only striking out one batter. Peterson had been dominant so far this season, coming into the game with a 1.26 ERA and a 24:5 K:BB ratio, but allowed four runs to score in the fifth inning. It was the first time that Peterson allowed more than one run in a game since June 15 of last season.

Binghamton (13-11) vs. New Hampshire (15-9)

The Rumbles Ponies’ game against the Fisher Cats was postponed due to rain. The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader on May 5.

Palm Beach (16-12) 4, St. Lucie (11-16) 1  Box Score

St. Lucie’s offense scattered eight hits in this game, but could only score the one run. The team’s lone run came when a Jacob Zanon groundout brought home Dale Burdick in the eighth inning. Gimenez now has a hit in 7 straight games.

  • LHP Blake Taylor (L, 0-2, 5.31 ERA) 6.0 IP, 9 H, 4 ER, BB, 5 K
  • RHP Adam Atkins (1-0, 2.95 ERA) 2.0 IP, H, 2 BB, 3 K

Taylor was able to get through six innings for the first time this season as he was able to limit his walks and keep his pitch count to a respectable 92 pitches. However, the results still weren’t quite their for the young lefty, as he gave up a season high four earned runs. Adams came into the game and fired two scoreless innings, giving him 10.1 consecutive innings without allowing an earned run.

Columbia (15-13) 2, Lakewood (15-13) 1  Box Score

Columbia didn’t have a ton of offensive production in this game, scoring only two runs on eight hits. However, thanks to a great pitching performance, those two runs were enough to secure the victory. With a single in the second inning, first baseman Jeremy Vasquez extended his on-base streak to a remarkable 27 games. His OBP (.451) and OPS (.979) both rank second in the South Atlantic League.

  • LHP Jake Simon (0-3, 3.86 ERA) 5.0 IP, 4 H, R, BB, 2 K
  • RHP Joe Cavallaro (W, 2-1, 1.93 ERA) 4.0 IP, 3 H, 2 BB, 4 K

After struggling out of the bullpen in his last appearance, Simon was very good in this start, allowing just a single unearned run over five innings. Cavallaro came into the game to piggyback Simon and continued his impressive season with four shutout innings. Batters have hit just .196 off of Cavallaro this season.
