Welcome to MMN Storylines, where you can check a quick wrap-up of last night’s top performers…

  • Ike Davis enjoyed a three-hit game yesterday, as he went 3-for-4 with a double and solo home run. Davis is now rocking a .293/.424/.667 slash in 75 at-bats in Triple-A with seven doubles, seven home runs, and thirteen RBIs. The power numbers alone demonstrate why it’s hard to count Davis out — and exactly why I haven’t given up on him yet.
  • What did Sandy Alderson acquire with Giancarlo Alvarado? The native Puerto Rican was signed out of the Mexican League and has transitioned perfectly to Las Vegas, with two victories in two starts. He has tossed six shutout innings in both of his outings. While It’s extremely unlikely he turns into a star at this point, considering his extensive history in the minor leagues, he could serve some purpose for us down the line.
  • Jack Leathersich went back to doing Leathersich-esque things last night when he struck out four in two innings of relief while allowing just one hit. Keep it up, kid…
  • Your injury updates: Ruben Tejada went 0-for-4 in Las Vegas while Scott Atchison and Tim Byrdak each tossed a scoreless inning of relief, in the GCL and St. Lucie respectively. Matt den Dekker technically isn’t rehabbing anymore, but he went 0-for-4 last night as well.
  • I have no idea who lit a fire under Allan Dykstra this season, but I won’t complain at all. He crushed another home run last night, giving him 13 in 209 at-bats this season with 20 doubles and 54 RBIs. He currently owns a .316/.479/.598 slash line.
  • Travis Taijeron doubled again last night, which kept his slugging percentage over .600 (.603) during his time at Binghamton so far.
  • Domingo Tapia still has low strikeout numbers, but he tossed 6.2 scoreless innings last night in St. Lucie’s victory. He gave up just two hits, but walked four.
  • Kyle Johnson stole his first base as a part of the Mets organization with the Sand Gnats last night. The first of many? Let’s hope…
  • Beck Wheeler and Paul Sewald combined for three scoreless innings last night, and dropped their ERAs to 1.67 and 1.57 respectively. Nice!
  • Out of Brooklyn, Matthew Oberste won the game for the ‘Clones with a walk-off sacrifice fly. Akeel Morris got the win and has been absolutely dominant in relief for Brooklyn so far, with 18 strikeouts in 10.2 shutout innings while holding opponents to a .114 average.
  • Wuilmer Becerra enjoyed a three-hit game as part of a GCL double-header yesterday. Casey Meisner and Andrew Church both made their debuts in the event, and as I could have predicted, Meisner looked more effective. Insert small sample size joke here. For those of you who don’t know what I’m talking about, I described Meisner as a better pick than Church at the time.
