• The B-Mets went above and beyond for anyone who attended their game yesterday — not only did Noah Syndergaard turn in a relatively effective performance, but the Mets slammed five home runs as part of a 14-3 blowout victory. Syndergaard’s three runs allowed were all listed as unearned because of an error in the sixth that allowed a runner to reach base, and Thor served up a two-out home run. Outside of that inning, however, Syndergaard was in control as usual. He struck out seven.

• Rafael Montero settled down in Las Vegas for what feels like the first time, and allowed two runs over six innings. I stick to the idea that Montero needed Triple-A but not Las Vegas — and he might be changing himself to cater to the league. Everything about Las Vegas is wrong for Montero, from the conditions that can affect his grip on the ball to his pitching style. Although his strike:ball ratio was still solid last night, 61:30, there’s more to the story. In 66.2 innings for Binghamton this year, Montero allowed 18 earned runs, 10 walks, and two home runs. In 31.0 for Las Vegas, Montero has allowed 16 earned runs, 10 walks, and two home runs. As expected, his strikeout numbers dipped a little with the move up as well. The walk numbers are somewhat concerning, knowing that Montero was basically the control specialist of our situation, and is now showing signs of slowing down. However, I fully expect the young right-hander to turn this ship around and solidify his status as one of our top prospects sooner rather than later. So yes, for anyone asking, I’m not worried.

• According to St. Lucie’s website, Michael Fulmer is the projected starter for today’s game at 1:00. Cue elated screams from me as I explode with happiness. Fulmer’s one of my favorite prospects in our system and I think his rehab has went well. We’ll find out for sure later today…

• Steven Matz dominated for seven shutout innings yesterday as part of a double-header in Savannah, so he technically pitched a complete game shutout. He scattered three hits and walks while striking out five.

• Injury update: Ruben Tejada went 0-for-4 with a walk last night in Las Vegas, which dropped his average to .118 in his short time there. Tim Byrdak tossed another scoreless inning for St. Lucie.

• It wouldn’t be fair if I didn’t give the B-Mets offense their due after the blowout, so a hat tip to Daniel Muno, Josh Rodriguez, Travis Taijeron, Darrell Ceciliani, and Wilfredo Tovar for each going deep in their thrashing of New Hampshire. Tovar may have been the culprit who made the error in the sixth, but it ended up helping Noah’s ERA anyway… Speaking of ERA, Adam Kolarek pitched an inning and allowed no runs, dropping his ERA to 1.43.

• In last night’s St. Lucie game, Kevin Plawecki spelled Jayce Boyd at first base, while Boyd DH’ed. Plawecki had two hits and Boyd went deep. Dustin Lawley homered as well, which gives him 17 at this point in this season…wow.

• Luis Cessa had a nice game in one of Savannah’s games yesterday, allowing an earned run over five innings while striking out 9. Cessa has 81 strikeouts in 85.1 innings pitched this season.

• Casey Meisner and Andrew Church, two high draft picks from the ’13 class, continued to work out of the pen and both got appearances last night. Church pitched 2.1 scoreless innings while Meisner allowed two runs over an inning and a third, but both runners scored as inherited runners via Cameron Griffin.

• Patrick Biondi had an excellent game last night, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs, a walk, two runs scored, and three stolen bases. L.J. Mazzilli and Jared King also had three hits in Brooklyn’s win — and Mazzilli added a stolen base for good measure, too.
