In an effort to be a little more interactive with the readers, since I’m not usually around during the day to respond to comments frequently, I grabbed two comments that I thought were great discussion starters off MetsMinors…

Satish — Ideally this would be great. I wonder if the Mets would take a look at Corey Hart on a short-term, incentive based deal this offseason. He hasn´t played this year due to injury, but he´s a monster power threat. If the Mets are ready to move on from Davis and Duda, he might be an option.
Good thinking here, Dave. Corey Hart would fit nicely into our line-up as a right-handed power threat and could play not only first base, but the corner outfield spots. However, I think his history of consistent play beforehand may put him in a place to command more money than we’d be willing to give him. In addition to that, the Mets seem to be grooming Wilmer Flores to play first base, and if so, he could fit in nicely as a right-handed power threat. I’m pretty high on Flores, who has basically shown improvement offensively and defensively in each of the last few years, so I’d actually be comfortable with that. I still haven’t given up on Ike Davis yet, by the way, although my hope for him has severely diminished.
Don’t be afraid to throw Allan Dykstra‘s name into the conversation at first base as well…

Hey Satish,
Interesting question or scenario…It was said by Sandy that he attempted to trade RA Dickey to the Rangers for a package[after investigating rumors] that presumably included Mike Olt and Martin Perez or Justin Grimm and he was rejected… But after acquiring d’Arnaud for Dickey Rangers were offering the same package(Olt & Perez or Grimm) straight up for d’Arnaud.
Joe D. mentions it here as well:
http://metsmerizedonline.com/2013/01/strange-tales-so-these-three-gms-walk-into-a-bar.htmlAnd what brings more credence to this rumor Bluejays and the Rangers were really the only 2 teams at the forefront that were seriously after Dickey. Not to mention the fact that the Rangers GM Jon Daniels was already reported to be hot for d’Arnaud that offseason before the RA Dickey trade went down.
As you can read here:

And here:
http://www.bluebirdbanter.com/2012/10/9/3478952/travis-darnaud-toronto-blue-jays-the-rangers-scouts-love-this-topSo there was a connection between these 3 teams and said players….
So it leads me to this….My whole point for this post….
Would you consider calling up the Rangers and starting talks to swap players????
Travis d’Arnaud for Jurickson Profar!!!!
Obviously my opinion is YES!!! Profar the younger player higher upside both play premium positions with offense to go with it…
At the very least it is worth investigating on Aldersons part…And it makes sense for both teams.
Sign me up if the Rangers were interested — but I doubt they are. Trading TDA would be putting faith in Kevin Plawecki as the catcher of the future, which most people have mixed feelings about, including me. Do not get me wrong here, I think Plawecki is a very talented young catcher who could turn into a good major league catcher, but there’s a lot that needs to fall into place for that to happen.
In addition, Here’s the issue with trading d’Arnaud at this point — his trade value is as low as it can get. His highest value is likely with us and that means we’re going to have to ride or die with the young man. This is not as bad as it seems at all, because d’Arnaud still embodies the potential to become a future all-star and provide above-average offense as a premium position. However, it is extremely unlikely the Rangers would jump on that offer, perhaps even more-so after emptying some of their farm for Matt Garza.
Here is an idea. Bring up D’Arnaud sometime in September and if he plays well, this trade may have a future during the winter meetings.
I have a thought that I would like to share: Please respond.
The Rangers have the #1 prospect in baseball, everyone wants him. So do the Rangers! They signed Elvis Andrus to 10 years for $131MM. They aren’t happy about the production they are getting for the 24 year old defensive whiz with speed to burn. He has no homeruns, and only 12 extra basehits. That is our opportunity. Andrus can fly! Was rated the #7 defender in all of MLB last year. This year, his BABIP is only .289, where it normally is around .335. Thus, his average is at .247, but add the fifty points he is missing, and….290+.
Furthermore, with that contract, we can get him for barely more than Montero and Tapia (Texas has very little pitching in the minors now). He’s only 24, so he’s expected to rebound and has 21 SB already. As he gets older, he’ll get a little stronger. Now, you add a top defender at SS that is also your leadoff hitter, so we can get a middle of the order bat for LF (Beltran?). Resign Byrd, let’s just say, or get Choo. Put Flores at second as now you have Andrus to help defensively. And here is your lineup:
Andrus
Flores
Wright
Beltran
Byrd/Choo
Duda/Ike/Satin
D’Arnaud
Lagares (although I would like to see him move up, but where?)
Pitcher.
How do you like that? Problem: Texas won’t make this deal til December, but I’m sure (hopeful) they will. Would/Should the Mets?

You are aware that the Rangers have moved Profar to the “OUTFIELD” full-time…a position he has never played in his career.
Do you know why they moved him out there?
1. Because they just extended Andrus to a huge deal…They extended Andrus at a time they knew full well Profar was ready for the majors.
2. Kinsler is blocking him at 2B
So there is no home for him in his natural position with the Rangers for the forseeable future….since Kinsler is signed through the year 2018 and Andrus is signed through the year 2023 with an opt out clause 2018 & 2019.
And both of those deals were signed fairly recently…. Andrus signed his deal in April of 2013 and Kinsler April of 2012.
So Profar is the odd man out he doesnt have the power to profile as a corner Outfield. And the rangers have no interest in trading either Kinsler or Andrus which is why they re-upped both guys knowing full well they had Profar in the waiting in the wing.
Profar will be traded more than likely he will be traded for a power hitting corner outfielder. But I hold out hope that Sandy could revisit the Rangers for a deal centered around d’Arnaud a player the Rangers were EXTREMELY high on…they loved him so much they were willing to give up the same package they gave up for Garza a proven above average veteran MLB pitcher.
Again Just my opinion.
Satish I see this post about Profar stirred a hornets nest over at MMO lol….
While I do want Alderson to pursue Profar with d’Arnaud as the bait….I ultimately think Profar will be used to try and lure Giancarlo Stanton to Texas this offseason.
If I were the Sandy I would put this d’Arnaud scenario out there so the Rangers are aware they have options just in case they cant work out a deal with the Marlins whom will have tons of suitors for Stanton.
Rangers are in a tough spot this year. Theyve been looking for help in the Outfield since losing Hamilton to the Angels all year. Now with the Biogenesis fiasco they are in danger of losing Nelson Cruz[whom will also be a free agent at the end of the year] to suspension for the rest of the year.
So offering a package centered around d’Arnaud with Byrd[a guy who had his best seasons in Texas prior] and maybe mid level prospect for Profar and a low level guy(s) could start convo. It Might not get a deal done but will be enticing and could possibly lead to further conversation in the offseason if a deal isnt struck.
You never know….
-We were told no way Alderson would get Wheeler for Beltran, and he got him.
-We were told no way Alderson would get the package he got for Dickey, and he got it.
You never know til you ask 😉
Sounds good to me
