Noah Syndergaard, the Texan-norse god of thunder, or as we like to call by the comic-book hero, “Thor”, is on the cusp to becoming a big-league starter. The tall right-handed starter throws a fastball that might as well be lightning, going from 94 to 98 miles per hour, and runs in against right-handed hitters. His second pitch, his curveball, is a true hammer, one that Terry Collins calls “The hook from hell”. And his changeup, well, last few reports have it coming along finally, and it looks to be at least above-average. All three pitches have great command and control by Syndergaard, who between High-A St. Lucie, and Double-A Binghamton walked only 28 batters and struck out 133 in 117.2 innings.
Syndergaard had an excellent year, in addition to his walk rate, having a 3.11 earned run average in 63 innings at High-A St. Lucie, before moving to Double-A Binghamton, where he had a 3.00 earned run average, finishing with a 3.06 era for the year. He improved exponentially when he joined Binghamton as well, striking out 69 in 54 innings.
Prospect Outlook: Syndergaard is expected to open at Triple-A Las Vegas, and is on the cusp to join the Mets in the Major Leagues as soon as the super-two date comes. Then he will join a very impressive rotation that the Mets will field in the near future. Syndergaard’s potential place is at the top of the rotation.
