1. Zack Wheeler, RHP

Status: Warming up

Wheeler’s MLB debut was a successful one, helping the Mets complete the doubleheader sweep of the Atlanta Braves this past Tuesday. He earned his first career victory in the Show, and went six scoreless innings, allowing four hits, five walks, and seven strikeouts. Obviously, the walks are way too high, but I attribute that to first start jitters. Two of those walks came in the first inning, and it was easy to see he was a little amped up for his debut. After the win, he was officially optioned back to Triple-A, but will only be in Vegas for the next couple days to throw pens before getting promoted for good in time for his start on Tuesday in Chicago against the White Sox.

2. Travis d’Arnaud, C

Status: Injured

On Tuesday, d’Arnaud got another bit of good news, as doctors cleared him to start running again. He’s been sidelined since April 17th after fracturing a bone in his left foot. He should be in the middle of a rehab program by now down in Port St. Lucie, and we’ll hopefully be seeing him back on the field very soon. In 36 at-bats with Las Vegas before getting injured, d’Arnaud was hitting .250/.429/.472 with one home run and eight RBIs this season.

3. Noah Syndergaard, RHP

Status: Neutral

Syndergaard hasn’t pitched in a regular season game since allowing four runs in six innings pitched in a win against Clearwater, but he also got the win in this year’s FSL All-Star game. He entered in the fourth inning for the South Division All-Stars and allowed one hit in a scoreless inning. The right-hander has been getting quite a bit of rest, and a promotion to Double-A should be coming very soon. He’s currently 3-3 with a 3.11 ERA and 1.21 WHIP in 63.2 innings of work. Syndergaard has a 9.0 K/9 (64 total Ks) and a 2.3 BB/9 (16 total BBs).

4. Rafael Montero, RHP

Status: Warming up

Montero had an uncharacteristic start for Las Vegas last night in Tucson. He allowed three runs and eight hits in five innings pitched, while giving up two walks and seven strikeouts. He earned the no decision, and remains 0-1 in Triple-A. This could be the PCL starting to do what it does to some pitchers. It will be interesting to see how he adjusts to life in the PCL in his next string of starts. Still, a 6.33 K/BB ratio after 17 innings pitched in Triple-A isn’t too shabby.

5. Wilmer Flores, INF

Status: Warming up

Compared to what he was doing at this time last week, Flores has cooled off a little bit at the plate, but that doesn’t mean he’s still not hitting well. He’s hitting .326 in his last ten games, including one home run, six RBIs, and five runs scored within the last week. Rumors have been flying around whether it will soon be time for the top-prospect to make his MLB debut, but that remains to be seen. While it will be tough to find him a spot on the diamond to play, he’s shown his bat is ready for the show. He’s hitting .365/.392/.581 in 74 June at-bats.

6. Brandon Nimmo, OF

Status: Neutral

Nimmo had most of this week off due to the SAL All-Star break, so I’ll say he’s neutral despite the 0-for-5 and two strikeouts he put up last night in Savannah’s first game back. The outfielder was an All-Star reserve, and went 0-for-1 in his only trip to the plate. Now that Jayce Boyd and Kevin Plawecki have been promoted to St. Lucie, the Gnats’ lineup will be looking for Nimmo to continue producing. He’s hitting .293/.394/.407 this season with one home run and 21 RBIs.

7. Domingo Tapia, RHP

Status: Cold

The last two starts for Tapia have not been good ones. Against Clearwater and Palm Beach, the right-hander has only thrown 9.1 innings, allowing eight runs on 16 hits, seven walks, and 10 strikeouts. He’s been up-and-down since returning from the disabled list on May 24th. After he couldn’t get out of the first inning in his first time back on the mound, he only allowed two runs over his next 11 innings pitched before this recent rough patch. In order to be successful, he needs to cut down on the base runners, and he can do that by improving his current 1.74 K/BB ratio.

8. Michael Fulmer, RHP

Status: Injured

We received some more news yesterday on how Fulmer’s rehabilitation is going. From interacting with fans on twitter, Fulmer said he threw four innings in an extended spring training game on Wednesday. He will move on to the GCL for one more start on Tuesday before he finds out his immediate future. He’s unsure whether or not he’ll be assigned to Advanced-A St. Lucie once his rehab from knee surgery is complete, but after going 7-6 with a 2.74 ERA and 1.20 WHIP, I’d be surprised if he didn’t end up there.

9. Luis Mateo, RHP

Status: Injured

It was revealed on Wednesday that Mateo had Tommy John surgery this week, effectively ending his 2013 season. After one stint on the DL in April and May, he came off the shelf on May 30th to start rehabbing with St. Lucie. Two appearances in, and he was hurt again. In four total games (two starts) between St. Lucie and Binghamton, Mateo was 1-2 with a 6.17 ERA in 11.2 innings pitched. He joined the Mets in May 2011 as a non-drafted free agent.

10. Gavin Cecchini, SS

Status: Warming up

While his first two games this season as a Brooklyn Cyclone saw him go 0-for-7 with three strikeouts, Cecchini broke through against Aberdeen last night with his first hit of the year. He also walked and stole a base. This season will be interesting to see how the shortstop is able to build off his .240/.307/.321 line in rookie ball last year with the K-Mets.
