Who’s Hot:

Michael Conforto – Brooklyn

We know Michael could hit in college, and he’s showing he can hit in the pros, too. This year’s first round selection has gotten off to a hot start, batting .391 in his first six professional games (9 for 23) with three doubles and only striking out two times. Makes you wonder how quickly he’ll rocket through the system.

John Gant – Savannah

After struggling in his prior outing on July 13th, John rebounded with a seven inning, complete game shutout on July 20th in the first game of a doubleheader against the Lexington Legends. In the shutout, he allowed just one hit and one walk while striking out eight. On the season, in 17 starts, John is 10-5 with a 2.76 ERA in 101 innings pitched. John was a 21st round pick of the Mets in the 2011 draft.

Akeel Morris – Savannah

Akeel continues to have an outstanding season for Savannah. In 30 appearances out of the pen, the 6’1″ righty from the Virgin Islands has notched 10 saves and has an ERA of 0.80 in 45 innings. Opposing batters are hitting just .108 against him and he has struck out 69 batters. He hasn’t been scored upon in his last six outings, he’s pitched 7.1 innings while allowing one hit, walking two, and striking out 11 batters. He’s allowed only four runs all season, three of which occurred in a single outing on July 1st.

Who’s Not:

Jake Kuebler – St. Lucie

Jake had a really rough outing on July 23rd against the Tampa Yankees. In one inning, he allowed five hits, walked three, allowed five runs (4 earned) while striking out one. The 24 year old right hander was originally drafted by the Royals and spent six years in the Kansas City organization as a corner infielder. Currently in his second year in the Mets organization and second season on the mound, Jake has a 4.54 ERA in 24 appearances out of the pen.

Albert Cordero – St. Lucie

Entering Friday’s action, Albert hasn’t had a hit since July 3rd and has only one hit this month. In his last five games, he’s gone 0-14 with just one walk. On the season, the 24 year old Venezuelan in his 7th year in the organization is hitting .200 with 21 hits in 105 at bats.
