Acquired in the famous R.A. Dickey trade, #6 on our list is outfielder Wuilmer Becerra. Becerra has a ton of potential and could make the trade look even better with a breakout campaign in 2016.

#6 OF Wuilmer Becerra

Ht: 6’4”   Wt: 190   B/T: R/R    Age: 10/1/1994 (Age 21)

2015 Level: Savannah Sand Gnats

Statistics: 118 G, 449 AB, 67 R, 130 H, 27 2B, 3 3B, 9 HR, 63 RBI, 33 BB/96 SO, 16 SB, 8 CS, .290/.342/.423

Becerra signed with the Blue Jays back in 2011 for $1.3 million out of Caracas, Venezuela. His 2012 campaign and Blue Jays career was cut short (11 games) when he was hit in the face by a pitch while playing in the Gulf Coast League. His jaw was broken, wired shut, and his first season in pro ball cut short after hitting .259/.359/.375.

download (1)Wuilmer struggled in his first season with the Mets in hitting only .243/.351/.295 with just seven extra base hits and 60 strikeouts in 58 games for the GCL Mets. He finally showed some power in 2014 when he hit .300/.351/.469 with ten doubles, two triples, seven homeruns, and seven stolen bases in 58 games for the Kingsport Mets. He was named the player of the week in the Appalachian League on July 21st and chosen as a post-season all-star too as well.

He got his first taste of full season ball in 2015 and was ranked 15th in the South Atlantic League in extra base hits with 39 while playing in the historical pitchers haven Grayson Stadium. He actually hit better at home in 2015 with an impressive .316/.362/.444 slash line in 63 games at Grayson.

Needs to count down on his swing when behind in the count which he has worked on but 96 strikeouts in 118 games is too many.  He has slightly above average speed and a strong arm that make him a perfect fit for right field.

I expect a big year from Becerra after his strong winter ball campaign where he hit .405/.416/.500 in Venezuela. He’ll most likely start in St. Lucie and could advance to Binghamton with a strong first half.
