After playing a couple of close games of late, the Tom Goodwin led Scottsdale Scorpions were blown out by the Glendale Desert Dogs due in part to the struggles of Mets pitchers.  Here is a a review of how the Mets prospects performed:

POSITION PLAYERS

While Cecchini’s hot hitting seems to have cooled off a bit, he still drew two walks in the game.  In the field, he did not have any errors, but he did not have a good game at shortstop.  In the first, Cecchini could not get to a ball in time leading to an infield single.  In the fourth, Cecchini couldn’t get to a ball, and he deflected it as it went to left field for a base hit.

While Tebow had been swinging a better bat of late, he was overmatched in his four appearances on the day.

PITCHERS

By the time Molina entered the game in the fifth inning, the Scorpions were already down 8-1.  In his first inning of work, Molina calmed the game down a bit by pitching a scoreless frame.  Unfortunately, the sixth inning did not go as well.  After allowing a lead-off single, he issued a one out walk.  Both runners would score after a double and a sacrifice fly.  On the sacrifice fly, the center fielder made an error allowing a second runner to score on the play.  Overall, the most important thing for Molina was he was able to go two innings, and that he didn’t show any signs of diminished velocity.  At this point of the Tommy John rehab, this type of outing is considered a success.

Roseboom entered in the eighth inning when the game was no longer in doubt (not that it was when Molina entered the game).  The Desert Dogs quickly loaded the bases against him, and they scored a run on an RBI single.  Roseboom did bear down and get a big strikeout.  After the strikeout, and his having already thrown 28 pitches in the inning, Goodwin lifted him for a reliever who got the last out of the inning.

The Scorpions play again today at Peoria Javelinas at 3:35 P.M.  The game is not scheduled to be televised.
