Montero Dominates Through Seven Strong, Strikes Out Nine

Oh, Rafael Montero…way to put the exclamation point on a wonderful night of Mets pitching! I was originally so disappointed in the organization’s decision to put Montero in Triple-A where he could have been victimized by the factors that make the PCL so bad for pitchers… and originally, it seemed like he would be.

But he battened down the mental hatches, turned it up a notch, and has since been nothing but dominant over his last few starts for Las Vegas. Tonight was no different as he cruised through seven innings of work and allowed just one run, a solo home run, off two hits and two walks. He struck out nine batters over that span as he looked to be in control throughout the entire start.

Of course, that’s the theme for Rafael Montero. His last three starts have all resulted in quality starts and this one was no different. His nine strikeouts were tops for his work in the PCL so far and he walked three or less batters for the fourth straight start as well. He left the game in line for his fourth win in Vegas.

By the way, for more good news, look to Savannah where Seth Lugo tossed seven scoreless innings and struck out 11 in the most dominating performance of the night for the Mets organization… Nice!
