Everyone is allowed a bad game here and there, right? It looks like Rafael Montero cashed in his “one rough start” card last evening as he lasted only three innings. He allowed five hits and walked three batters, which led to four earned runs scoring. Even if we call the home run he allowed a result of the PCL, three walks in a game is extremely uncharacteristic of Montero — and so is the single strikeout. He was removed after 74 pitches, but only 39 of them were strikes. I hope he can turn it around for his next start.

Armando Rodriguez, Jack Leathersich, and Gonzalez Germen went ahead and backed up Montero with 5.0 scoreless innings of work — with Leathersich looking as impressive as ever in a perfect frame with two strikeouts. Robert Carson‘s implosion in the ninth, however, after the 51s had rallied to tie it earlier, left them stunned. He was rocked for six earned runs while achieving only one out. Ouch.

Wilmer Flores slammed a solo home run in the bottom of the first to put the 51s on the board first, and it wasn’t a Mike Baxter RBI double in the bottom of the fifth that the Vegas crew would score again. They battled to tie the game in seventh, off a sacrifice fly from Wilmer Flores and an RBI single by Brian Bixler. It would all go to naught after Carson got lit up in the ninth, however.

Flores is on a seven-game hitting streak — where he has multiple hits in three of them.

The 51s play tonight at 10:00 ET, but starters have not been announced.
