Fresno 14, Las Vegas 6
How does the saying go? If you can make God bleed…? Well, four runs in five innings may not be the worst outing possible, but it may be putting doubt in the minds of our fans. Undeservingly so, however, as Rafael Montero still remains one of our better prospects. However, he was merely below-average on Monday night as he allowed seven hits and two walks, which led to four runs in the second and third innings.
A two-out RBI single by opposing pitcher Erik Surkamp scored a run against him in the second, but he was really hurt by the back-to-back walks he surrendered to open up the third inning. Todd Linden doubled and Chris Dominguez singled consecutively, driving home three runs combined.
That being said, the game was in reach until Fresno, through a combination of some iffy pitching and even iffier defense, scored nine runs in the top of the sixth against D.J. Mitchell. A grand slam and a three-run bomb in the inning did the damage. It was 13-1 by the bottom of the sixth, effectively putting the game out of reach.
The 51s did bang out ten hits, including a pair for Wilmer Flores and a trio for Brandon Hicks — but Hicks made a couple errors in the field to balance that out, sadly.
Chris Schwinden should take the mound for the 51s this evening.

I was afraid that Montero being sent to Vegas would turn out to be a stupid idea.
I wonder if this is a temporary glitch, a PCL effect, or Montero finally reaching a level that tests him…
