Rafael Montero was absolutely amazing today as he continued his stretch of dominance over the entire Eastern League. Montero breezed through his start against the Altoona Curve with seven more shutout innings, allowing just two hits and a walk over that span. He struck out six and dazzled anyone watching as he spun a gem.
Over his last three starts in AA, Montero has pitched a combined 20.o innings, allowed just eleven hits and four walks, and struck out eighteen. The most impressive thing, however, is that he has not allowed a single run over those twenty innings. Yes, Montero has not allowed a run since his May 21st start with the 51s and is basically knocking on the door for a promotion.
By the way, Cesar Puello continued his ridiculously hot play today — 3-for-5 with a home run, four RBIs, two runs — and is honestly starting to impress every person on the planet at this point. You can check the box score for the game by clicking here.
Whether the Mets want him to skip Vegas or not is up to them, but Montero is just scary good at this point. He improved to 7-3 with the win today and lowered his AA ERA to 2.43. Montero is likely a candidate to replace Wheeler in the AAA rotation when he gets called up next week, so keep an eye on that one, folks…
And Cesar puello another huge game. He is showing everything you could want if your the mets, power, speed, hitting for average and good d in the outfield. It Is time for him and Montero to go to Las Vegas.
Hey Satish
Whats the word on Cory Vaughn??? Havent seen him in the lineup the last few days, and now with Taijeron promoted to Bingo whats his story??? Nagging injury possible early promotion?
He was put on the DL today for his elbow.
Yeah, Lee’s right. I’ll have a post on it real soon.
Is it possible that the Mets will go with fill ins next year in the outfield while they wait for theBingo outfielders to develop? You can see a 2014 late year outfield of Vaughn in LF, Den Dekker in CF and Puello in LF with Captain Kirk and Lagares in reserve. Lots of youth but you never know.
Sorry. Puello in RF.
Why it’s he not in Las Vegas already?
I don’t think that outfield has enough talent. Puello I believe could be starting at some point in 2014 and the mets will get an outfielder during free agency. The last spot should be between Vaughn, Kirk, den dekker, duda, etc and ultimately Nimmo in quite a few years. For montero, he should be promoted now. He is major league not to mention AAA ready. If the mets don’t want to send him to Vegas, tell him this, let him season and refine in AA until after the all star break. We will see him at some point this year.
Puello & Nimmo are the only legit OF prospects in full season ball, i.e. players who project as starting players.
Vaughn, Den Dekker and others figure to have a shot at being 2nd division starters or backup outfielders.
2/3rds of the next good Mets outfield will come from outside the organization…
