The MLB Futures Game will have a New York Mets feel to it next month when the best and brightest minor league stars play at Citi Field. According to Matt Eddy of Baseball America, former Mets Mookie Wilson and Edgardo Alfonzo will manage the two teams. Wilson will head the United States team, while Alfonso will take charge of the World team.

Both of these players were fan favorites of the Shea Faithful. Wilson was selected in the second round of the 1977 amateur draft, and played with the Mets for nine and a half of his 12 MLB seasons. He was a crucial part of the 1986 World Series championship team (even more so thanks to that ground ball Bill Buckner couldn’t handle). He hit .276/.318/.386 career hitter in the Orange and Blue, while his 281 stolen bases and 62 triples were franchise records before Jose Reyes broke them both.

Alfonzo was signed by New York in 1991 as an amateur free agent, making his MLB debut four years later on April 26th, 1995. Eight of his 12 seasons in the bigs were spent in Flushing. He put together a triple slash of .292/.367/.445 with 120 home runs and 538 RBIs.

The Futures Game will take place at Citi Field on Sunday, July 14th.
