The hottest team in the New York Penn League continued their winning ways on Monday, as the Cyclones defeated Hudson Valley, 4-0. The Cyclones currently have the longest active winning streak in the NYPL at five. Carlos Valdez was superb in his six innings of work to notch his first win of the season.

For the second time this season Valdez went six innings without allowing an earned run. Valdez only allowed four hits, walked one, and struck out three before handing it off to Akeel Morris. Morris tossed three innings of shutout ball to continue his spectacular season. Through 25.0 innings pitched Morris has yet to allow an earned run and has struck out 31 batters.

Matt Oberste got the Cyclones on the board first with a long ball over the left field fence. The home run was Oberste’s second of the season, and his first since June 19 against the Staten Island Yankees. After hitting just four home runs through the first 36 games of the season, the Cyclones have now hit four home runs in their last four games. Oberste’s solo shot gave the Cyclones an early 1-0 lead after two innings.Oberste finished going 2-3 with a walk, including the home run.

Brooklyn scored two more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to build their lead.Oberste was involved in the mix again leading the inning off with a walk.Alex Sanchez then followed with a double to center field that put runners in scoring position for James Roche. Roche took advantage of the opportunity and hit a one out double down the third base line that scored Oberste and Sanchez, making it 3-0 Cyclones.Roche has 11 doubles on the year and is tied for the team lead with Jared King.

The Cyclones added another run in the bottom of the fifth on a groundball that should have gotten the Renegades out of the inning. With two outs, Sanchez hit a groundball to Renegades shortstop Julian Morillo. Morillo intended to get Oberste out on the force at second, but bobbled it and allowed King to score from third, giving the Cyclones a 4-0 lead. King reached on a two out walk and an Oberste single advanced King to third.
