Mets GM Sandy Alderson briefed the media last night at the Winter Meetings in Orlando.alderson-350x319

Here is what beat writers were reporting:

Sandy addressed the shortstop situation and said that he is very pleased with Ruben Tejada‘s work ethic this offseason.

“It’s quite possible that Tejada will be our shortstop when we leave the Winter Meetings.”

“We may live with certain weaknesses,” Alderson said.

As far as his goals in Orlando, Sandy has 3-4 areas left for the team to address. He expects some deals to get done, but mostly of the complementary variety.

The Mets still have money to spend; $15 million projected by a source. However, it’s difficult to say now how of that money will be allotted.

Now here is a shocker, Sandy said its possible to have one of either Rafael Montero or Noah Syndergaard start the season in the rotation. This is a course correction for the GM who has always insisted that would not be the case. Expect a couple of briefings like this (morning/evening) each day during the Winter Meetings.

Thoughts from David C.

I agree with this move, because I feel that the Mets need impact pitchers in the rotation and what better way then to bring up one or possibly two from within their own organization.  If Thor or Montero are dominate this upcoming season, it will just launch this team to another level and 2015, with the return of Matt Harvey, should be a special year.  Nothing is set in stone and there are many things that can happen, but I like Alderson’s thinking and feel it won’t hurt but help the rotation. Very exciting to see how it all pans out. 2014 season can’t come any sooner.
