Future Mets Pitching Phenom

The anticipation as to which Mets prospects would be on the MLB Top 100 Prospect list grew as the time creeped closer to Thursday’s 10 pm start.  But as MLB began to update their list, it became truly apparent for Mets fans that the prized right handed future phenom would be placed very close to the top. But Thor, as all Mets fans refer to him, wasn’t the only Mets prospect to be revealed on the list.  Pitcher Rafael Montero came in at #85 up from #98 in 2013 and Catcher Travis d’Arnaud came in at #22 down two spots from #20 in 2013.

So with the names continuing to be revealed, the wait was finally over when Noah Syndergaard was finally placed at #11, up one spot from #12 in 2013. In the individual rankings per position, d’Arnaud came in as #1 for catchers, Syndergaard was #3 for pitchers, Dominic Smith, #2 for first basemen, and Wilmer Flores, #10 for second basemen. Smith and Flores were not ranked in the Top 100.

With the excitement boiling over of who would be on the list, some of the prospects also interacted on Twitter with the fans via #MLBPipeline.

Below are some of the highlights of Thor tweeting with the fans.

» If Noah was not playing pro baseball, he would be in the strength and conditioning field. He would like to help athletes achieve their dreams.

» He shared that in the Big leagues, he would want to wear Roy Halladay‘s #34. Halladay was his baseball idol growing up.

» When asked if he thought Twitter was a bad platform for pro athletes, he shared that he loved all the interaction with the fans.

» The nickname that best suits him; he said to call him nighthawk.

» His biggest goals for the season, are to get some W’s with the big club.

»When asked if he liked playing in NYC for the Futures Game, Thor shared that he loved it in NY and it was something he could get used to.

» A fan asked how his changeup was coming along and if it was anywhere near what his curve ball is, and he shared that it was making serious strides and it should be interesting in spring training.

» And for all the Star Wars buffs, Thor actually is a fan all the way.

It was an entertaining night of watching the fans interact with the stars of tomorrow.  MLB did a great job by inviting a number of the top prospects to interact with the fans.  These are the players that we will be able to watch develop into major league ready talent and what better way then to bring attention to them, then by having the fans interact live.

The 2014 season is shaping up to be a very exciting baseball year, not only for the big clubs, but for all the minor league teams around the league. Spring training is only a few weeks away and already the anticipation of what we will all get to witness is building up to a frenzy.
