Travis-dArnaud

Noah Syndergaard and Travis d’Arnaud have been paired in plenty of prospect lists within the last few weeks. As multiple outlets are releasing their top-50 prospects at the midway point this season, these are the two Mets prospects that continually show up, usually landing somewhere in the 20s. It’s no different at FanGraphs, as Marc Hulet reveals their site’s top-50 minor leagues halfway into 2013.

Syndergaard comes in at number 21 on this list. In 83.2 innings pitched between High-A and Double-A, the right-hander has put together a combined ERA of 2.69 to go with a 9.68 K/9 and 2.15 BB/9. Here’s what Hulet had to say about Noah:

Syndergaard, who has been known to tickle triple digits with his fastball, recently received the start for the U.S. club at the annual Futures Game, which features the top prospects from around the game. He’s been as good as advertised since coming over to the Mets from the Jays in the off-season trade of R.A. Dickey. The development of his breaking ball is the only thing holding him back at this point.

I think his breaking ball has made a lot of progress this year, and it was display at the Futures Game over the weekend. With the way he’s pitched and pounded the strike zone, we’ll be seeing Noah in the not too distant future.

Despite only accumulating 49 plate appearance in Vegas before being sidelined with a fractured foot, d’Arnaud cracks the list at number 24. He’s hitting .250/.429/.472 with one homer and eight RBIs. Although he’s had a tough time staying healthy his last two seasons in Triple-A, Hulet still thinks d’Arnaud is primed to be a start in the bigs:

d’Arnaud has missed a great deal of the season due to injury. Now 24 and in his seventh season (second at Triple-A), the catcher is almost MLB ready despite the missed time and should develop into a solid big league regular, if not a star.

Congratulations to both Travis and Noah on making it onto yet another top prospect list. Now let’s just hope they stay healthy (or get healthy, in d’Arnaud’s case) so we see them both in Flushing sooner rather than later.
