Brooklyn 7, Hudson Valley 4

Matthew Oberste went 4-for-5 and Colton Plaiaadded a three-RBI effort as the Cyclones rallied for a 7-4 win over the Hudson Valley Renegades on Friday evening.

Jorge Rivero led off the game with a single and when Ismael Tijerina reached on an error, the Cyclones quickly had runners on the corners with nobody out. L.J. Mazzillifollowed with a sacrifice fly that chased home Rivero to open the scoring for Brooklyn.Jared Kingwas hit by a pitch to put a pair of runners on before Oberste and Alex Sanchez chased both runners with home back-to-back single to push the Cyclones advantage to 3-0 after the top of the first.

But as has been the case of late, the lead was short lived, because in the bottom of the frame, the Renegades sent eight men to the plate, and pulled even against Brooklyn starter Seth Lugo.

After matching zeroes in the second and third innings, Hudson Valley took the lead in the bottom of the fourth. Omar Navarez started the frame with a single, and moved into scoring position after a wild pitch. After Lugo was able to get a strikeout and a ground out, nearly wiggling out of trouble, Darryl George laced a double to right field to push the go-ahead run across and give Hudson Valley a 4-3 advantage after four innings.

The see-saw scoring continued in the Cyclones next turn at-bat, as they knotted the game up again. Brooklyn loaded the bases with nobody out, and Colton Plaia lined a single to left field to push the tying run across, but the Cyclones failed to do any more damage after Anthony Chavez and Rivero struck out before Tijerina popped out in foul territory to lead the bases loaded.

After wasting a golden opportunity in the fifth, the Cyclones took control of the game for good in the top of the sixth. Jared King and Oberste started the threat with back-to-back singles and James Roche put the Cyclones in front with a two-out single that scored King, making it 5-4. Colton Plaia was the next man up and hit a booming double to centerfield to push both Oberste and Roche across to push the Cyclones advantage to 7-4.

That lead would prove to be more than enough as Tim Peterson tossed three near-perfect innings of relief, allowing just a single hit, before turning it over to Shawn Teufel who pitched a scoreless ninth to close out the win.
