Jupiter 4, St. Lucie 2

Once again, Alex Panteliodis found himself buried in an early hole. Unfortunately for the St. Lucie southpaw, the result was also similar.

Panteliodis gave up all four of his runs in the first two innings and the Mets’ offense was unable to rally all the way back in a 4-2 loss at Jupiter on Saturday night. The third consecutive defeat dropped St. Lucie out of first place in the FSL South Division standings after Charlotte upended Palm Beach to take over the top spot by a half-game.

For the third time in his past four starts, Panteliodis permitted at least four runs after three innings as he took the loss to fall to 6-5 on the season. He has just one win in that four-game stretch and watched his ERA grow to 4.24. Still, Panteliodis managed to come within an out of a complete game, allowing nine hits and three walks with two strikeouts in 7 2/3 innings.

There were some positives. Outfielder Kyle Johnson continues to impress from the leadoff spot, going 1-for-4 with a walk and a run scored to improve his hitting streak to 13 games. He has now tallied 16 runs scored in 15 games this month.

A night after his own 13-game hitting streak was halted, second baseman T.J. Rivera collected two hits, including an RBI double in the third inning that scored the Mets’ first run. Kevin Plawecki, who was back behind the plate after serving as the designated hitter Friday night, went hitless in three at-bats but plated St. Lucie’s second run on a fielder’s choice in the fifth inning.

The Mets will task Michael Fulmer (2-2, 3.82 ERA) with halting their three-game slide during Sunday’s game. He will be opposed by Josh Hodges (4-5, 3.60) for the Hammerheads.
