Memphis 5, Las Vegas 3

Francisco Pena hit another three-run home run Tuesday for the Las Vegas 51s, but it wasn’t enough in a 5-3 loss against host Memphis.

Memphis scored four runs in the sixth inning to open a 5-0 lead and Las Vegas managed just five hits for the game in splitting a four-game series against the Redbirds. It was the final game in a rough eight-game road swing for Las Vegas — the 51s dropped six of eight games.

Zach Lutz had two hits for Las Vegas in the loss, becoming the 51s’ most accomplished hitter after slugger Wilmer Flores was promoted to the New York Mets earlier Tuesday. Giancarlo Alvarado allowed just one earned run over five innings, but he took the loss after after D.J. Mitchell and Jack Leathersich got rocked.

The 51s are off Wednesday. At 7:05 p.m. Thursday, Las Vegas hosts Oklahoma City at Cashman Field to open a series.
