Mets slugging first base prospect Peter Alonso was named the Florida State League’s Player of the Week for the week ending June 25th.  Over the past week, Alonso played eight games going 12-29 with three homers, six doubles, and 14 RBI.  The real highlight of the week was Friday.  In that game, Alonso went 4-5 with three doubles, a homer, and 5 RBI.

This week was a real promising week for Alonso who had struggled most of this season with him landing on the disabled list with a broken hand.  Before this week, he had only been hitting just .167/.217/.269 with only two doubles, two homers, and six RBI in 21 games.  Over this past week, Alonso has looked more like the slugging first baseman that took the New York Penn League by storm last season.

This is Alonso’s first career Player of the Week honor.  If he continues to hit like this, we will certainly see him raking up more of these awards.
