Slugging St. Lucie Mets first baseman Peter Alonso has been named the Florida State League Player of the Month for the Month of July. This marks the first time Alonso has been named a Player of the Month, and the honor comes one week after he was named the Florida State League Player of the Week.
During the Month of July, Alonso hit .336/.394/.603 with seven doubles, eight homers, and 26 RBI. During the month, Alonso would lead the Florida State League in hits, runs, extra-base hits, total bases, homers, and RBI. Alonso finished the month on an eight game hitting streak. In the month he would hit in 25 of the 29 games played, and he would reach safely in 27 of the 29 games.
On the season, Alonso has played 67 games hitting .291/.367/.534 with 19 doubles, 14 homers, and 50 RBI.
Alonso joins fellow Mets first base prospect Dominic Smith in being named as the Player of the Month for the Month of July.
Alonso could make the jump to the Majors next year for Binghamton. Just as Conforto did.
He is looking better every day…..a 2-run scoring double which he scorched to left-center tonight…..This kid has a chance to be real good!
Somebody give him.a thirdbasemen glove

People who have seen him said he can barely play 1B, and that 3B isn´t a reasonable expectation. 1B or DH, unfortunately.
Mets would LOVE if he could be even passable at 3rd. I doubt it unless they really work with him in the offseason. Let’s get DH rule for only Met games! If he matches this next season he will really be in the conversation of “What should we do with him and where to put him?”
Would be nice to have a Mets prospect with Power like that. Lets see what Smith can do at 1st. Could be a Duda/Ike Davis situation in a couple of years.
Or… it could be a d’Arnaud/Plawecki situation. And why would you even want a Duda/Davis scenario? that situation arose because neither man was playing well, and neither won the job outright.
There is no conversation to be had regardless of what he does next year. The Mets can move him along slowly and stretch out his development as long as possible so that he is coming of age and readiness shortly before Dom Smith becomes a free agent. There’s nothing wrong with making him spend a full year at AA, a full year at AAA, then optioning him back & forth between AAA and the majors for a couple of years, and then having him play a bench or platoon role for a couple of years.
