Update 8/11:

The Cyclones announced that first baseman and recently named All-Star Peter Alonso would miss the rest of the season with a broken right pinky finger. He suffered the injury on Tuesday night while trying to avoid a tag at second base. Tough blow for the Mets 2nd round pick who was hitting .321/.382/.587 in his first 30 pro games for Brooklyn.

Original Post 8/10:

With the Brooklyn Cyclones only three and a half games out of a wild card spot, the last thing they need is for injuries to begin piling up. However, after last night’s victory over the Vermont Lake Monsters, it was clear that several integral members of the team had caught the injury bug.

1B Peter Alonso, who has torn the cover off the ball since beginning his professional career with the Cyclones, had to be removed from Tuesday night’s game after jamming the little finger on his right hand. The jam occurred in the bottom of the third inning, when Alonso hit his 12th double of the season, and slid awkwardly, avoiding the tag but injuring his finger in the process. Alonso was not removed from the game until the ninth inning, when the finger swelled and became discolored, leading to fear among the coaching staff that it had been broken. The 2o16 second-round pick is hitting .321 with a team-high five home runs and 21 runs batted in.

OF Desmond Lindsay, who was held in Florida while he nursed a hamstring strain until July 23, is still feeling discomfort from the injury, as it has not healed the way he and the organization had hoped. Lindsay is able to play, evidenced by his solo home run on Tuesday night, but the frustration has led to a scheduled visit to team doctors on Thursday for an MRI. In 12 games with Brooklyn this year, the 2015 second-round pick is hitting .314 with two home runs, four runs batted in, and two stolen bases.

OF Jacob Zanon has partially torn the labrum in his right shoulder, ending his 2016 season. The 21-year-old fell to the ground after the injury occurred on a swing during the ninth inning on Sunday. Zanon is the New York-Penn League leader with 20 stolen bases, but he will not get a chance to break Angel Pagan‘s team record of 30. Zanon hit .197 with two home runs and 18 runs batted in across 44 games.
