Alonso has been diagnosed with a broken left hand, according to Resnick. There is no timetable for his return.

Original Post

According to MMN‘s Jacob Resnick, Mets first base prospect Peter Alonso had to be removed from the game against the Pittsburgh Pirates Single-A affiliate Bradenton Marauders.

Alonso has been placed on the 7-day disabled list with what is being described as an arm injury. Catcher/first base Anthony Dimino has been promoted from the Columbia Fireflies to take his spot on the roster.

Alonso was last year’s second round draft pick, and he absolutely raked for the Brooklyn Cyclones hitting .321/.382/.587 with five home runs and 21 RBI in just 30 games.  Alonso’s season was cut short as he broke a finger diving into second base.  The Mets were impressed enough by that 30 game sample to have him skip Columbia and start the season in St. Lucie.

So far this season, Alonso is 4-21 with one home run, two RBI, and the aforementioned hit by pitch in six games. As of right now, it is unknown the seriousness of his condition.

Well, that’s rough for Alonso. Hope he’s OK. Meanwhile, Dimino was hitting around .700 in Columbia (yes, yes, SSS, but still), so it’ll be interesting to see how he handles the jump.

Geez, this guy can’t catch a break. First, he broke his hand on a pitch in college last year, then he breaks I believe a finger/hand sliding into a base in Brooklyn, now another broken hand. Hoping that he makes a full and quick recovery. But this is also why it wasn’t a good idea to trade Smith now that we had Alonso

Think he needs my work gloves with the impact shields on them.

  • Dom is a better all around player and it might not particularly be close. But I can only say so much. I only use a 2 cent opinion based on watching players in person when I can. But my opinion is dom is a better hitter, and defensively id say Alonso makes Dom look like Ozzie smith in the field.
I say Alonso definitely has more power.

Hope he gets back. Guy always seems to be getting hurt. Dom is the better prospect overall. Alonso if he stays healthy could be a trade piece in the next year or two unless Dom falters

Completely agree with all of this

I’ve made $84,000 so far this year working online and I’m a full time student. I’m using an online business opportunity I heard about and I’ve made such great money. It’s really user friendly and I’m just so happy that I found out about it. The potential with this is endless. Here’s what I do
