Mike Puma of the New York Post reports 2017 first round draft pick David Peterson “had some kind of physical issue near the end of spring training.”

At the moment, the exact physical issue has not been identified, but Puma reports it was enough for the left-hander to remain in St. Lucie for the next 10 days to help get him ready for the 2018 season.

While we do not know how long this has been an issue, it should be noted it was about two weeks ago Peterson was getting some rave reviews in Spring Training after an outing in which he faced  Michael Conforto in an intrasquad game.  Peterson faced Conforto twice striking him out once and allowing a homer to Conforto in the ensuing at-bat.

Once the Mets are satisfied Peterson is healthy enough to pitch in games, he is going to report to the Low-A Columbia Fireflies.  When he does join the Fireflies, he will be joining what should be an interesting rotation featuring Tony Dibrell and Anthony Kay.
