Pina’s Late Triple Wins Game For Sand Gnats In Extras, 4-2

Savannah 4, Delmarva 2

Eudy Pina blasted a two-run triple in the top of the 13th inning as the Savannah Sand Gnats defeated the Delmarva Shorebirds 4-2 Monday.

The game was tied 2-2 at the end of regulation and stayed knotted until the top of the 13th. Maikis De La Cruz opened the inning with a single and came home on Pina’s game-winning blast.

Savannah opened the game with a run in the first inning as Jorge Rivero singled, advanced on a ground-rule double by Stefal Sabol and scored on a single by Cole Frenzel.

The Gnats struck again in the second when Jeff Glenn singled and scored on a double by Dimas Ponce.

Delmarva got a single run in the bottom of the sixth when Roderick Bernadina doubled and scored on a single by Lucas Herbst, and tied it up in the seventh when Nik Balog singled, advanced on a single by Wynston Sawyer and scored on a ground out.

Wanel Mesa (1-0) got the win with three innings of relief. Mesa, the fourth Savannah pitcher of the night, held the Shorebird scoreless, giving up three hits, walking one and striking out two. The two close out the series tonight in Salisbury with a 7:05 game.
