Predicting Which Prospects May Impact The Mets Roster In The Near Future

I found a post on Mack’s Mets Report this morning, where a list was created that picks which prospects may call Citi Field their home in the next few years.  Here are the selections:

2014 – SP Noah Syndergaard, SP Rafael Montero, RF Cesar Puello

2015 – C Kevin Plawecki

2016 – SP Steven Matz, SS Gavin Cecchini, OF Brandon Nimmo, 2B Dilson Herrera

2017 – SS Amed Rosario, 1B Dominic Smith

This is a conservative list and there’s a good chance a few more will develop from a list of players like Adam Kolarek, Jeff Walters, Jacob deGrom, Gabriel Ynoa, Michael Fulmer, Hamilton Bennett, Robert Whelan, Chris Flexen, Pedro Perez, Jhoan Urena, Wuilmer Beccera, Ivan Wilson, and Jared King

There is nothing here that we all don’t already know about which players may be ready to make the Mets, but I wanted to add who I feel should be on this list.

I feel that a player like T.J. Rivera is being overlooked as a choice to man either SS or 2B in the coming future. Rivera, who can be up by 2015, has proven, since joining the Mets in 2011, to be a viable bat in the lineup. He may not be a power guy or be the stand out player that wows the crowd, but he reminds me of a young Derek Jeter; humble, very intelligent of the game and the type of player you need to have on your roster because he will give you 100% all the time. This past season as the lead-off man at St. Lucie, all he did was lead the Florida State League  with 145 hits and played solid defense with a .982 Fld%  and only 10 errors in 539 chances between SS and 2B.

Another player that I feel may be overlooked is Dustin Lawley. After being named the FSL Player of the Year with 25 home runs and 92 RBI’s, he was moved straight up to Las Vegas where he will get his chance to show that 2013 is just the start of something special.

I also feel that Kevin Plawecki can be major league ready by possibly 2014, especially if he continues to develop and the Mets need added depth at first base and/or the catching position.  There also isn’t any mention of  Jack Leathersich who has proven that they may be ready by either end of 2014 or the start of the 2015 season.

I am sure that we can all add some names into the mix above that may fit the time frame. That is one thing about the good talent the Mets have on the farm, any number of the prospects can be ready in the next few seasons.
