Height:  6’1″

Weight: 200

Age:19

Bats/Throws: Both/Right

With the Brooklyn Cyclones season about a month underway, third base prospect Jhoan Urena has already established himself as the team’s top producer. Urena is batting .333 with 3 home runs and 11 RBI through 84 at bats. He also leads the team with an excellent .398 OBP and .922 OPS.

Over the past few weeks, Urena has been one of the hottest hitters in the Mets minors. He has reached base in 15 out of his past 16 games, and is batting .445 in the last seven days. One of his best performances came on Friday night against the Aberdeen Iron Birds. Urena collected two doubles and an RBI and also stole his third base of the season.

Outlook: While Urena did not receive a lot of hype to start the season,  he should start gaining more recognition going forward. With a quick bat and above-average power, he has the potential to develop into an impactful hitter at the plate.  Scouts always believed that he had a lot of raw talent, so his performance this season is very promising. As a 19-year old in a short season league however, Urena still has a lot to prove. He is years away from reaching the major league radar, and he will likely be tested next season against more challenging pitching in A-ball with Savannah.
