Miller Diaz

With all of the buzz surrounding several top pitching prospects in the New York Mets organization, there are several others producing at all different levels of the minor leagues.  We all know that success in the lower level of the minor leagues doesn’t always translate to success as they climb the ladder, but one of several pitchers in Savannah is worth keeping your eye on.

Miller Diaz signed as an international free agent with the Mets in 2009 as a 17 year old.  He has bounced around the lower levels throughout his time in the organization and is having a tremendous amount of success so far this season.  In seven starts for the Sand Gnats, he is 5-0 with an ERA of 1.93.

He has pitched 42 innings so far with an eye-opening 53 strikeouts and opponents are hitting just .200 against him this season.  He just had a five-game win streak snapped his last time out and you can be sure that he will bounce back quickly.  This is his second stint in Savannah and is having much more success after a difficult time in 2012.

Diaz spent 2013 in the New York-Penn League with the Brooklyn Cyclones, and enjoyed some success, so a move back to Savannah was only fitting.  It is unsure when or where his next move will be, but if he can continue to work on his pitches and control, there is a chance that he could see Binghamton next season.

The Mets have stockpiled pitchers and have plenty to look forward to as they progress through their careers.  Patience is a virtue but you also don’t want to keep them down too long.  Struggling a little at the higher levels to me seems more rewarding then overpowering the competition at the lower level.  Miller Diaz is just another name to keep in mind as the season and years go by.
