Rainy Lara and Sand Gnats Fall to RiverDogs, 4-2

Game three of the series between the Sanannah Sand Gnats and the Charleston RiverDogs  was played in front of 1,752  fans Wednesday evening at Grayson Stadium. Charleston won 4-2, winning two out of three games this series. Neither team did much with the hits they collected, as Charleston left 13 men on base and Savannah left 12 of their own.

Leading off the game for Charleston,  center fielder Jake Cave singled and would come around to score on a single by third baseman Dante Bichette Jr. The RiverDogs scored a run in the 4th, 5th, and 7th innings. Savannah pushed their first run across in the 4th inning when left fielder Stefon Sabol doubled and eventually scored on another double from third baseman Jeff Reynolds.

The second run was scored in the 9th inning; shortstop Phillip Evans doubled and Keven Plawecki brought him home with a run scoring single. Plawecki led Savannah hitters with three hits in five at-bats and had one RBI. Jeff Reynolds was the other standout performer at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one RBI. Starting Savannah pitcher, Rainy Lara( L, 4-2), pitched 4 2/3 innings, allowed three runs (two earned), on seven  hits, one walk, and struck out four. Tyler Vanderheiden relieved Lara and pitched 1 2/3 innings, allowing one run on one hit and two walks. Beck Wheeler pitched 2 2/3 innings, struck out four and gave up two hits.

Savannah takes the field tonight to play the Augusta GreenJackets. The series gets started at 7:05pm at Grayson Stadium.
