Recap Of Mets Player Movement This Offseason

Last night ten Mets minor leaguers elected to become free agents including  Vic Black who was once a big part of New York’s bullpen. He struggled with numerous injuries this year and was unable to pitch effectively for the Las Vegas 51’s giving up 21 runs in 26.2 innings.

His Las Vegas teammates Brandon Allen (1B/OF), Brooks Conrad (INF), Darin Gorski (LHP) and John Church (RHP) all elected to becomes free agents as well. Both Gorski and Church have spent their entire careers in the Mets minor league system after having been drafted in 2009.

Five players who ended their 2015 season at AA with the Binghamton Mets also became free agents are they are: Joe Benson (OF), Jonathan Galvez (UT), Vince Belnome (UT), Albert Cordero (C) and Gilbert Gomez (OF). Both Cordero and Gomez have been in the Mets system sine 2009.

Earlier this offseason the Mets released 14 minor leaguers and they are: Cory Vaughn, Branden Kaupe, Jeff Glenn, Adam Kolarek, Julian Hilario, Manuel Hilario, Zach Mathieu, Anthony Chavez, Leon Canelon, Ruben Reyes, Oswald Caraballo, William Fulmer, Jose Figueroa and Alvin Maracaro.

The Mets also outrighted Eric Young Jr, Anthony Recker and Wilfredo Tovar to the 51’s and they each elected free agency as well. The Mets 40-man roster now sits at 37.
