Savannah 8, Greenville 3

Savannah’s Jeff Reynolds had three hits and drove in four runs to lead the Sand Gnats to an 8-3 victory over the Greenville Drive on Tuesday night.

The Gnats (30-20) won their second straight in the three-game series with the Drive and have won five of their last six games overall.

Savannah’s Brandon Nimmo, the New York Mets’ first-round pick in 2011, made his first appearance since April 29, but went 0 for 5. Nimmo had been sidelined with a hand injury and then a back injury.

Reynolds and the rest of the Gnats picked up the offensive load. Reynolds drove in a run in the fourth inning with a sacrifice fly, had a two-run single in the fifth and added a run-scoring single in the ninth.

Eudy Pina had a home run for the second straight day, and six Savannah players had multiple-hit games. The Gnats finished with 15 hits.

The hitting outburst backed a quartet of Savannah pitchers. Steven Matz started and was roughed up for four hits and two runs – and he left the game with what is presumed to be a blister/nail type injury.

Relievers Julian Hilario, Paul Sewald and Hunter Carnevale combined for six innings, allowing just one run while scattering five hits.

Hilario went three innings, allowing just two hits, no runs while striking out four.

Jacob Dahlstrand took the loss for Greenville, which slipped to a South Atlantic League-worst 14-37.

The Gnats will try to complete a sweep of the three-game series tonight at 7:05.
