Right-handed pitcher Ricky Knapp was demoted from Triple-A Las Vegas to Double-A Binghamton.
In 25 starts this season, Knapp was 6-13 with a 5.97 ERA, 1.514 WHIP, and a 4.7 K/9. Opposing batters hit well against Knapp with a .308/.348/.492 batting line. Although, it should be pointed out some of this was fueled by a .327 BABIP on the season. Part of that is his .364 home BABIP this year.
It should come as no surprise he has extreme home/road splits this year. At home, he is 2-7 with a 7.23 ERA and a 1.742 WHIP. On the road, he’s 4-6 with a 4.92 ERA and a 1.322 WHIP.
Knapp’s demotion does come as a bit of a surprise. Over his past five starts, he’s 2-2 with a 2.70 ERA, 1.050 WHIP, and a 5.7 K/9.
The 25 year old Knapp was the Mets 2013 eighth round draft pick. For the second straight season, Knapp will be Rule 5 Draft eligible. His demotion indicates the Mets will once again choose not to put him on the 40 man roster.
There are only 2 1/2 weeks left in Las Vegas season. Probably wanted to extend Knapp’s season and let him pitch in playoffs fro BInghamton.
I see it also that way Rocky. Binghamton is going to the playoffs and Knapp can help them. I think it’s more of a demotion to make Knapp pitch in Vegas.
Yeah. That and Knapp’s style simply doesn’t play well in Vegas. Its not going to do him any good to keep pitching there. At least not this year. Maybe if he learns a new pitch or tweaks somethig in the off season….
