german-ahmed-rosario-2Well, this is a surprise…

According to Ahmed Rosario’s personal instagram, he is headed to Kingsport to play baseball, which opens up in about 4 days. This means, at 17-years of age, Rosario will be headed to play ball in the Appalachian League instead of playing in the DSL or even the GCL. The men currently in charge are known for notoriously moving their prospects along at a snail’s pace — and you don’t need to look any further than players like Rafael Montero, Kevin Plawecki, Noah Syndergaard, Jayce Boyd, or Cesar Puello to see that it takes a lot to earn a promotion with the Mets front office.

That being said, even Dominic Smith, who I think is an extremely polished hitter, is projected to start his work in the GCL. This is an extremely surprising move by the Mets front office — but only because they have a habit of moving their players slowly. See, Rosario is an extremely talented young man with superb bat speed and supposedly good defensive talent as well, and could potentially move through the system quickly.

This should free up the GCL starting SS spot for Luis Guillorme, our 10th rounder and resident defensive wizard.

If all breaks well, I believe Wuilmer Becerra, the young OF acquired as the third piece in the Dickey trade, will be joining him in Kingsport. Right off the bat, those are two potentially stud players, even though they both have a long ways to go. It should be a fun year for the Kingsport Mets.
