#Mets demote Greg Burke. Gonzalez Germen’s recent performance is rewarded.

Jacob deGrom looks like front Runner to be called up to make spot start for Mets this Friday.

Well, time to address these really quickly. First off, Gonzalez Germen is finally getting his shot with the team, and considering he was on the 40-man for a long time, I hope it brings him success. I often mentioned his name under players that could’ve easily been cut off the 40, so we’ll see what happens.
On the topic of Jacob deGrom, I think this is the smart move. I mentioned yesterday that I didn’t want to see Mejia thrown into the fire so quickly and especially while he’s technically still on the back-end of his rehab. On the flip side, deGrom was set to end up on the 40-man roster sooner rather than later because he needs to be protected from the Rule V Draft in the offseason. He’s also a very talented young pitcher and I’m very excited to see what he can do in a spot start. You never know where you can end up getting production from and deGrom has an amazing fastball that rocketed him through our system.
FINALLY!!!! d’Arnaud will play A GAME….smh

Mets have some options as far as 40-man moves. Burke could go. With Tejada’s recent play in Vegas Quintanilla could be exposed. Maybe Byrd or Buck is moved by Friday, especially with d’Arnaud beginning rehab games.
Really would prefer Mejia making the start over DeGrom. Itll be nice to see either guy go for the big club though.
Glad we will see DeGrom and NOT Schwinden
There has been a lot of shuffling this year, which usually I wouldn’t like. But in all honesty I think it shows that the front office is trying to field the best team they can right now and seemed to have employeed a ‘perform or go’ approach. German was thrown to the wolves in a tie game for his major league debut and given he held his composure, albiet a loss, I think he is benefiting from this accountability that Collins and the front office has been executing.
In regards to deGrom, I think if this is really just a spot start, they should use Mejia. First of all deGrom started this season in Single-A, quite a jump in one season. Second, Mejia is on the roster and has big league experience, and at some point the team is going to have to figure out exactly what they have with him.
I agree with Cole B. It is great that the Mets have been competitive the last 40 games, but the rest of the season is really about finding out what we have coming up. Mejia should get the start rather than rushing deGrom. If he performs switch Torres back to teh pen.
More importantly, we need to find out if we can use Tejada, Duda and Davis next year or put them in a trade for a bat in the off-season. All three have fallen, but still have talent.
Lastly, I love the Byrd, but if we can get a team to overpay we should deal him. We can always try to sign him in the off-season when he is a free agent.
