There might be some weird voodoo magic associated with the Mets spacing out their call-ups, but part of it could definitely have to do with paying players the MLB minimum salary for a couple days less. See, the Mets made the move to re-call Greg Burke, who will join the team today, but that’s literally it for today.

The Mets are expected, however, to call-up Mike Baxter and either one of Juan Centeno and Francisco Pena tomorrow, with Centeno being the more likely candidate. Tuesday will bring yet another potential call-up, as if the Mets are going to call up Ruben Tejada, they’ll do it then so they can delay his free agency clock by a year. There are still questions about whether the Mets intend to call him up, however.

Finally, Aaron Harang won’t join the Mets until he’s needed for that double-header next Saturday. That’s probably all you’ll see in terms of call-ups, because word around the organization is that Kirk Nieuwenhuis and Robert Carson will not be brought up to the MLB team for the rest of September.

No word on Jeff Walters, who is the name I want to hear discussed. We need to add him to the 40-man in the offseason anyway, and he’d be a hell of a lot more interesting than Burke in the pen down the line if they only want to pay for one extra bullpen arm. We’ll see how this turns out.
