Sand Gnats Blanked At Home, 4-0

Game two of the three game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Lexington Legends was played in front of 988 fans Wednesday evening at Grayson Stadium. Lexington pitching shut out the Sand Gnats, who dropped the decision 4-0.

The Legends scored their first run in the third inning when second baseman Kenny Diekroeger singled, stole second and scored on a single by shortstop Raul Mondesi. Leading off the sixth inning for Lexington, first baseman Mark Donato doubled, and was followed by a single by Fred Ford. Both runners scored on a double by Michael Antonio. The final Lexington run was scored in the seventh inning when Bubba Starling singled driving in Terrance Gore who singled and advanced to second on a fielding error.

For Savannah, Maikis De La Cruz was 2-for-4. Kevin Plawecki and Eudy Piña each hit doubles. Starting Savannah pitcher, Robert Gsellman (2-3) pitched six innings, allowed three runs on nine hits, struck out six and walked one. Tyler Vanderheiden pitched two innings, allowed a run on two hits and struck out two. Beck Wheeler allowed a hit and no runs pitching the ninth.

The final game of the series starts at 7:05 pm Thursday at Grayson Stadium.
