After three weather-related delays Saturday night, the water finally won when the Savannah Gnats game against the Greenville Drive was suspended by unplayable field conditions with the score 1-1 after five innings. The game will be resumed Sunday at noon with the Drive batting in the top of the sixth inning. Sunday’s regularly scheduled game will follow and will be played to all nine innings.

The Drive scored the game’s first run in the top of the second. With one out, RF Aneury Tavarez bounced a single down the rightfield line to start the action. After two walks loaded the bases, LF Dreily Guerrero lifted a sacrifice fly to drive home Tavarez and put the Drive up 1-0.

The Gnats evened things in the bottom of the fourth. Luis Diaz retired the first 11 batters of the game, but the Gnats’ 12th, Maikis De La Cruz reached on an error. He stole second and then scored on LF Stefan Sabol‘s clean line drive single into centerfield.

Gnats’ starter Steven Matz lasted five innings, fanning eight batters and allowing two hits.

Diaz was just as sharp, yielding one run on three hits with four strikeouts and zero walks.

Gates to Historic Grayson Stadium will open at 11:30 am on Sunday. The radio pregame show on News/Talk 630 and sandgnats.com will begin at 11:50 am.
