Adam Rubin of ESPN New York shared on his Twitter page that a scout at Sunday’s Mets and Cardinals spring game, actually said that lefty pitching prospect Steven Matz would be better suited to start the season in Binghamton (AA), then with St. Lucie (A+).
That is saying a lot especially since Matz pitched in 2013 with Savannah Sand Gnats (A) and pitched very well, also helping the team to capture the 2013 SAL Championship with a dominating performance.
In Sundays game, Matz made his Mets spring debut and pitched one inning, giving up a hit and striking out two. The southpaw flashed a mid-nineties fastball with very good late movement.
Scout at game today says Steven Matz should skip Florida State League and just be assigned right to Double-A Binghamton.
